Take a Dump

Ever wondered where it goes after pulling the chain? Have a look at this article from METRO (the free paper you pick up at railway stations).

Flush Tracker lets you track your poo in honour of World Toilet Day | Metro.co.uk

Re: Take a Dump

I have just watched mine travel through Ossy.
I have seen the sewer pass underneath property i.e it doesn't always keep to roads and pathways. I wonder how accurate this mapping is. It would be bad Feng Shui to live in a house over a sewer. I saw it pass under a bank! - some enterprising thief with a strong stomach could make good use of info like that

Re: Take a Dump

I thought it strange that mine went uphill to Guide - not aware of any pumping staions en route - then through/under the res at Guide lights

Re: Take a Dump

It is a publicity stunt by the makers of bleach, under the guise of raising our awareness that many countries have health problems due to lack of sewers.

It kept me amused for 20 minutes, but now I know it was not accurate, I feel cheated.

It does make you consider how our environment, and health, would suffer if there wasn't a sewerage system. Any such system is dependant on a power supply and labour - if either were withdrawn, there wouldn't be any sewerage treatment and disposal.

So stake your claim to a patch of grass now

Most sewage disposal systems work on gravity, never heard or seen of a system that pumps solids and other such stuff uphill.
Accrington's sewage system came into being after the Babbage report on local health in the 1850's, before that people just dumped their sewage anywhere, and according to the report Accrington was a really unhealthy place to live.
A copy of the report is in Accy Library, makes intersting reading.

Re: Take a Dump

I was amazed to discover many years ago that the sewerage from Sabden travelled underneath the Calder at Bridge Heywood Farm, Read and went into the sewerage works nr Great Harwood. There is a little pumping station at the corner of a field on the farm.

I must check it out on the dump web site.
