The clock was removed by the people who installed the cafe and they paid for it to be dismantled. The clock is still there under the Arndale but the cost involved in rebuilding it and reinstalling it is too great in the current climate.

Unfortunately, they weren't able to say how much it would cost to put it back. Plus, if it was installed there would presumably be some running costs. All down to money I'm afraid.

Then those People should pay fer it Re-Assembling. along with the owners of arndale, who obviously agreed to it.

I would think if the clock is to make a reappearance it would have to be Arndale themselves who have to finance it.

I don't know what the chance's are, but it would be a nice gesture from them if they were to reinstate the clock.

might be a suggestion all the shops in the arndale put a donation in a pot to put towards it. The clock would attract shoppers to the arndale ..can remember people used to stand and watch it ....

We have a Town Centre Regeneration Board which might well be the place to raise the issue of the clock.

As you rightly said Jen, the clock certainly was an attraction in the Arndale Centre.

I think it was the quirkiness that attracted people. I seem to remember people use to wait for the clock to strike the hour. I suppose anything that brings more people into the town centre has to be welcomed

It's suppose to meet quite regular. I'm not a member of it, there's only a couple of Councillors on it.

I would have thought as someone who as business in the town centre, you could be member of Town Centre Regeneration Board. That's assuming you'd want to be that is.

The next meeting of the Chamber of Trade (town centre shops) is on 24th Nov. I'm sure they'll have discussed it in the past.

The only people who can make the decision are the Arndale Management - and they've told me that at the present moment they can't afford to put it back. Perhaps if all the retail units were full then it might be a different story but they're not.

I do have the contact details for the Arndale Management so if anyone wants to ask them how much money would need raising, pm me and I'll give you their details.

Agree the Arndale management "Are" the only ones who can make that decision, but as they decided probably through greed to let someone remove it, if they had any decency they would put it back.

I think the cafe went bust so they won't be able to put it back.
