I thought something along those lines, maybe underground gases....? If you do the walk round the quarry from Whinney Hill Road you will come across quite a few

It's an al fresco loo, now closed and padlocked due to HBC cost cutting measures.

I believe it'll probably be for release of underground gasses, you see them dotted over the landfill sites over here. As the stuff breaks down & degrades it expels gasses & to prevent rupture/explosion they have these Chimneys.

Thats why its sealed n locked, build up- explosion= No Huncoat.:D
