The train line used to go through Bury to Clifton Junction just North of Manchester, then connected up with another line and went into Victoria.

As for Mancie, he ain't no Manc, he's a Blackburnian. ;)

No it went through Stubbins, a mile from Ramsbottom, where it joined the Rawtenstall, Bury line.
There is still a trace of the platform at Stubbins and bits of old bridge girders which you can see when you ride the East Lancs railway steam trains. I suppose you could change at Stubbins and double back to Rawtenstall. The East lancs line now finishes at Rawtenstall but once went through to Bacup or over New Line to Whitworth and Rochdale.

This is what to look out for if you have a trip on the East Lancs railway, it is where the line from Accrington joined the line from Rawtenstall. The line closed in 1972 when it was in the hands of British Rail.

If you are on the train to Rawtenstall from Bury keep a look out for it just after Ramsbottom and to your left you can see the outline of the old track bed and bridge as it curves off to Accrington.

Can you please tell me where those steps are and is there a hi res version Pic 3 in thread 25 available as it shows the house where my wife grew up.

The 3rd picture in thread 25 is a copy of the original given to me by someone who I was helping with a family tree some years ago.
Next time I am in contact with her I will ask if she could provide a better copy.

The steps are at the end of the path next to King George's playing fields . They lead down to the path where the railway went under the bridge .

I have a rough idea where the steps are but when I lived near Bullogh Park, according to my Dad, there were monsters and demons down that end of the park so we never went down there. I assume the steps took you up the other side, where Icky the Bare Bum Fire Bobby lived :)

Those pictures were in a collection of over 200 slides I bought last year from around the Haslingden Area but non of them are dated unfortunately. The dates of some of the others we have managed to pin around the early 70's but don't know for sure.

Great photos again . Thanks . Where is the lodge in the 9th photo ? Good reflection of the trees in it . At a guess I'd say the lodge near the horse riding school , but probably wrong .

Thanks . I've never noticed it from that angle . I usually see it from Miller Fold direction when taking dog for walkies .
