I got really excited .....

I was in town yesterday, late afternoon (8th) and saw this amazing sight.... "MY GOODNESS, THEY ARE ABOUT TO START ON BROADWAY" I thought and indeed, thats what it looks like .....but .. on talking to one of the workmen, he said all they were doing was taking up any broken flagstones, and ... replacing with tarmac.
But .. thinking positive, it MIGHT just be the beginning of something, eh?

Hmmm it sounds like they are just making sure no-one falls over the holes they had to make when the market was located there.

From looking at your photograph I suddenly realised how old and drab the "new" extension to the town hall looks now.

Re: I got really excited .....

I was looking at some of the plans for Accrington back in the 1930's the other day, I know the world is a changing place and its harder to keep prosperity in small towns like Accrington, but bloody hell the powers that be let it slip a little compared to the "good old days". It makes me wonder what the town will be like in another 70 years!

Where were you looking at them? What was on there which impressed you so much? I'd love to know what the future plans were back in those days.

Re: I got really excited .....

It’s an old assessment for Accrington to be modernised in various places around the town centre. Its shows the plans, sketches and actual photo's they had for allsorts of changes to things like the viaduct and shows employment records of the time etc. Can’t remember what it’s called but apparently you can still buy it from the library.

Do you know the one I mean atarah?
