Pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right I need advice!!!

Please can someone recommend some pain relieving gel/cream that I can put on my ankle??

3 weeks ago I tripped on the stairs. My ankle was very very sore, but I waited til the day after to go hospital thinking it would get better.

Day after off I went to Accy vic. There I saw a doctor that looked at my ankle ( literally ) and said " oh you have just twisted it. Keep walking on it and it will ease off. Day after I went to work. The most painful 6 hour shift I have ever had to do.

1 week later I went back to accy vic. When I saw the nurse she asked if I had a xray on it last time.......... I told her no. She looked at me and said " I think you should have done, I'm sorry the doctor you saw last week was a stand in doctor " ............ hmmm and??

this time they x-rayed it. Doctor came back and said " I can't see a break, I think you have sprained it. Nurse will put tuba grip on it, just rest it and it will ease. If it doesn't come back and I will have a look at X-ray again and refer you to physio.

and soooo another week on and It is getting worse not better. Every foot step I take feels like a very tight band around my ankle with a hell of a lot of pain that follows. If I walk for 20 minutes it swells up like a balloon!!!

I went to the doctors last week and he gave me Oruvail gel and Naproxen pain killers, neither of them do anything. The only thing that does ease it a little is Solpadol, which i don't like taking because they knock me out for hours, but I will do anything to stop the pain.

Ginger keeps telling me he is taking me back tomorrow, but I don't want to go back there. I'm not one for hospitals and doctors and it makes it worse when they give you that " why have you come here " look :( they obviously can't or won't do anything for me.

So if you know of anything that might help please let me know........other than that, I might have to amputate it :(

sorry for the rant x

Ask your doctor to refer you. Ask for a second opinion. It is your right.

I know what you mean, but I am one of those awkward people that don't like to make a fuss :( It never gets me any where and I wish I wasn't, but I can't change.

I just really hope it is a sprain and I haven't been walking around on a broken ankle for 3 weeks. i know they say sprains are painful but this is seriously killing me.

Sounds more like ligament damage to me, I have an ankle that matches your description ! Have gone over on it a couple of times and now it's permanently swollen and painful if I am upright for a while ! Feldene gel works ok, get some decent anti inflammatory painkllers, whack the gel on and try to keep the damn thing elevated as much as poss. Come and see my pharmacist in Boots for his suggestions. hope you feel better soon.
( I still have mine in a tubi grip esp during colder weather)

Just be careful what you are combining; I know it sounds like common sense but folk don't twig that a gel with ibuprofen and taking ibuprofen tablets= double dose !

Cheers Lindsay!!!! I must have very weak ankles because last year I did my left one (( this time right one )) ........... but that was no where near as bad as this and took only a week to start feeling better. I am keeping it up during the day as long as possible (( kids permitting )) I think I will take a trip to boots tomoz and see what they say. I will do anything at all to ease this pain.:(

Yes you can take paracetamol and Ibupro together because they haven't got same meds in them.

Doctor peter Dixon told me to forget Ibuprofen for a pain killer............ says you would need to take a very high dosage for any pain relief what so ever. He hates ibuprofen, and If I tell him thats what I'm taking, I get a lecture for 3/4 of an hour :D but he is a very good doctor and seriously knows his stuff.

Think you should get it checked out at casualty again, better safe than sorry. Took my daughter years ago long before they started to scale Accy Vic down, was told she was ok and she had a fractured wrist. So I think you should go back, you shouldn't have to suffer to the extent that you are. GO BACK AND GET IT SORTED.

I had a similar thing years ago .... jumped off the platform of the number one bus outside Accy Grammar .... twisted my ankle and got s**t from Sam Wignall 'cause I had no cap on ... but it does burn and hurt like hell .... but if you stay off it as much as you can, drink lots of booze, and be a real pain in the ass to all around you, it will go away. Good luck, eh.

Usually they are very good at Accy Vic .............. but this time, they make me feel like I'm wasting their time. Like I said, I hate hospitals and doctors, and if I can get away with not going I will, so when they treat me like this It makes me worse.:( Ginger has shouted at me today, and told me if its no better by monday he will take me kicking and screaming if he has to :(

Of course you have weak ankles, you're a woman, watch any Cowboy movie from the thirties until the sixties and whenever she and the hero are trying to get away the heroine always trips over nothing and does her ankle in!

Nothing to be ashamed of, I just hope it gets better soon.:D

Thank you Mallard!!! I have had many hot bath's in 3 weeks :o but I agree with the pain killer bit!! At the moment I'm doped up on solpadol disolvables, which is the only thing that take the pain away but they weren't prescribed for my ankle, I got them about 6 months ago!!

sounds like you have torn or stretched a ligament,i had a stretched ligament when i was pregnant with my 2nd and i was only 4 month gone all down one side of my belly and i had to suffer in pain till i had him, then it slowly went, some days it wasnt too bad but in bed and turning around was so painful,i would rest as much as you can and let it heel itself,

Slinky, have you tried anything like olbas oil. I find it be excellent for my arthritis. If you rub some onto your ankle after a warm bath it's even better. It's very good for muscle pain as well. You could also try a T.E.N.S. machine. I think they have gone down to about £30 now and available in lots of stores.

Due to my intense dislike of pharmacutical pain killers I have been 'putting up with' pain in my lower back for several weeks.
I had given up hope of ever finding an effective herbal pain killer until today :D
Eureka! - I have found SOOTHANOL X2 -effective on joint and muscle pain
North Star Nutritionals - Soothanol X2 - The Nutri Centre
it really works - I am amazed

ps I have read that horse trainers use it on racehorse injuries

Is there some paracetemol in your medicine cabinet?

PharmWeb - Paracetamol Information Centre
"Paracetamol is also known as acetaminophen"

YouTube - When Over the Counter Turns Lethal

That 'magic horse linament' I found about a week ago is very expensive at £30 for a tiny bottle, so I have been exploring its ingredient list and think I have found out which ingredient is the 'magic pain killer'
D M S O - Google Search

I have ordered some and will report back with results when I have tried it.

Can you also let us know what it smells like Margaret, because if its anything like what it used to be it won't be very nice. One thing that I use sometimes for aching joints Albus Oil, but that's the same it stinks to high heaven, but it does the trick:rolleyes:

I'm not bothered about the smell Margaret, but if its as bad as it used to be, I can't see too many women using it before they go to an Accy Web meet, cuz if they do they'll be sat on their own all night:D

The product I mentioned at post#36 reeks of wintergreen.
The ingredient in it, DMSO, smells of nothing.

I got DMSO gel on ebay from Ireland - it is listed on ebay under 'equestrian';)
It is a heck of a lot cheaper than Soothanol X2

I have tried it out on leg cramp and it works, but not quite as fast as Soothanol, but still within minutes
