There is an article in The Mail today
The nip-tuck stitch up: Could cosmetic surgery actually SPEED UP the ageing process? | Mail Online
It seems that after the initial youthful result, the treated skin ages faster than normal

really interesting article would never have drastic surgery my worse fear is being put to sleep and not waking up or waking up dead ooohhh doesnt say a lot about botox though

It was reported recently that Lulu, after raving about initial treatments, isn't having anymore Botox.

Probably because she is now unable to Shout.:D

Havn't had this but have considered it, one of my friends has it done every 3 to 4 months just on frown lines on her forehead because its only in a small area she still looks very natural. Dont think there's anything worse than people whose faces dont move because of it, dont think any surgery should be too obvious, also your lines are part of who you are embrace them.

Yeah, dont think its so bad in small areas, think it will hurt a bit though, no pain no gain!

There are medical reasons which Botox is necessary for. There have been studies that have proved that Botox has been rather effective in treating patients suffering from Cerebral Palsy, controlling muscle stiffness allowing then to have smoother control of their muscles and movement. It was originally approved to treat two eye muscle disorders, Blepharospasm and Strabismus and subsequent to that it was approved for treating Cervical Dystonia.
thats pretty interesting :)

I've heard that if you suffer from excessive perspiration having botox injected into your pits stops you sweating so much....I've met a few fellas who could do with a bit of that.:D

Oh yeh Grego, I wake up every morning and take note of yet another crease in my once youthful face and embrace it "Good Morning new wrinkle, welcome to the world, I love you"

Fifi .: 'Just do it' .. only temporary so just a practice run. If you can afford it and makes you feel better about yourself, then why not ! Just an extension of make up.

Having Julie pointing out my increasing grey hair my response is that its part of who I am. I see no need to hide it or pretensd it isn't happening.

my humble opinion is that natural is best, we don't 'need' it and is it just a cover to some insecurity that isn't going to go away? In fact, hiding it now may be just feeding that insecurity so when they come back it becomes an ever increasing spiral. at what point do you think you will accept that we get wrinkly as we get older? There has to be a point where you throw in the towel?

Loz 12-08-2008 10:04

Re: Botox

Embrace who you are, love yourself despite what society thinks.
It's only a temporary measure is it worth the pain and money over and over again to try and capture your youth?
I for one would never consider Botox or any other anti-aging treatments,we all fingers crossed get older and look older why try and change it?

Re: Botox

The thing is you can turn the aging process off, or even delay it, that is unless your Joan Collins. The way you look now is the way it should be, I look in the mirror very morning, and keep saying to myself you the hell is that starnge old wrinkly in my bathroom cabinet, but sadley its me:D

MargaretR 12-08-2008 10:32

Re: Botox

There is a lot to be said for growing old gracefully.
Not all Hollywood stars have anti aging treatment.
Diane Keaton advocates against it, and I admire her for it.
Many signs of aging result from poor health and often nothing can help that.
Nothing ages anyone more than pain.
We just need to try to preserve health, instead of outward signs of youth

grego 12-08-2008 10:38

Re: Botox

A little bit of botox which is what Fibi wants is ok but where do you draw the line, I think cosmetic surgery/fillers etc can be quite addictive and there's nothing worse than being able to tell when someone has had work done, in the end they often look worse than when they started.

MargaretR 12-08-2008 10:42

Re: Botox

I can't see any good reason to pay to be injected with poison.
If you have a mental problem whereby you feel inadequate with the way you look, the money would be better spent on therapy to improve your self esteem.

Ageing is a funny thing. Whenever I see old friends from school, they always look (to me) just as I remembered them, and they say the same about me. Yet when I look in the mirror, I see crow's feet looking back. I haven't considered Botox and don't think I would. I like to think of my emerging wrinkles as the old laughs and smiles I've had...:D

To be honest, I'm more concerned about new body parts that keep appearing. Bingo wings, back fat, skin tags and extra chins!!!!!!

Re: Botox

Beauty hasn't got anything to do with the way you look. Its an attitude, its the way you look at life, not the way life looks at you. My mum is in her 80's and has never had anything done to her appearance and she is THE most beautiful woman I have ever seen. She has grace, composure and dignity, shes lovely, shes kind, sensitive and caring she is truly a beautiful person.
So I would say no to botox.

Your mum sounds absolutely wonderful, and truly a beautiful lady Bonny, unfortunately, we are not all endowed with these lovely qualities, including myself, so will just keep slapping on the plonk for now, to try and aspire to at least outward attraction.

Just reading a report in the paper this morning. Oil OF Ugly have done a survey of women in the late teens early twenties and it seems that lots of young ladeeeeees think that after 28 a womans life is down hill from then on. To me lots of women get better with age, that is if they don't let themselves go, but the majority look after themselves more thse days than they ever did

Couldn't believe that when i read it!
Think its very sad that women feel that way.
I'm 24 and am very happy with how i look, can't see that changing in 4 years!
I have never worn make-up apart from my wedding day, never used any moisturisers or beauty creams and can't see me starting any day soon!

Well, wear mascara constantly, apart from in bed!

Am 27 now and not sure in a year would I think my life has gone downhill and would need Botox lol
Hopefully not:D

Re: Botox

I wear makeup for special occasions, work or just as a pick me up.

In fact, i have a 'face', so if I know I am walking into a situation that I know I will be uncomfortable with, I'll put my slap on. Think my wierd phsychology bit can then treat it like a different person, can hide behond my mask.

Botox, had a freind that had it done on her frown lines and smile lines. It did the job, she looked good and her self confidence went through the roof, so was worth it just for that.

These days, dependant how bad, theres so many creams etc which I was always cynical off, but have tried and do think they make a difference. Less expensive and drastic to botox

I wouldn't go there.....but then again im always getting ID'ied in town when i go out drinking so i obviously don't have any wrinkles or suchlike.

If you don't suffocate:) Would you not have to lie with your face in the pillow to see if it works? Wrinkles are part of us, can't be bothered will just grow old gracefully;)
