Me Bonnet won't open.

Thought I ought to check the oil today ... bonnet (hood to our American friends) release catch won't work. Don't think cable is broken. Can get me tiny fingers in the gap under the bonnet to the catch, but nothing happens.

Have read one or two other forum advices, but seems complicated. Anyone an easy solution before I resort to the hammer therapy ?

If you can get your tiny fingers to reach the catch, then the bonnet must have released to the safety catch. Did you have to press the bonnet down again.

Retlaw.

Thought that may crop up ... the bonnet is fully engaged Retlaw, but you can reach the catch by poking your fingers up the top gap of the grill, but doesn't do owt when I tease it.

Kate, take it to the main agent and ask them how to get in it. It might just be stuck and they might open it for you.

Its worth a try.

Actually, this worked (the Avensis link that is) !!! 'Course had to find a nice gentleman to push the bonnet down whilst I operated the Bonnet Release catch ... :D

Nicely filled up with oil now, was low .. :o but does need washer liquid too I noticed. Had none in the car at the time and, of course, won't work again without help. Is going to the garage tomorrow .. think the cable may need tightening.

Thank you everyone for your concern, advice and interest xx (Oh, and the saucy remark I received :) )

yep, I have an exceptionally devious mind..... Think its a combination of having worked in pubs and having a naturally laterally thinking capability.

My job often involves serious detail level problem solving and you often need to think of alternative solutions to the problem to find out which is 'best', 'fastest' 'safest' and 'least intrusive'. As such its always in training!

Well, all fixed ... he seemed to squirt a little WD40 on the mechanism .. twiddled around a bit whilst I was instructed to keep pulling on the release catch ... and hey presto ! 2 minutes ... perfect. Best thing ... no charge... :D
