Walking in Snow : A Tip
As the snow comes down, making walking difficult, I think it is time I passed onto you a tip my grandma gave me.
To avoid 'snow pads' building up on the soles of your clogs, making it necessary to kick against a wall to get rid of them, smear the inside of a banana skin over the sole before venturuing out. The result - no snow pads. Throughout my life I have wondered at my grandma's wisdom . What else can a banana skin be used for? Perhaps someone will test the tip on shoes and report back. This is right up Atarah's street. |
Re: Walking in Snow : A Tip
my dad put on his golf shoes... worked a treat whilst walking on the ice....
another one is to put a pair of old wool socks over your shoes:D |
Re: Walking in Snow : A Tip
Banana skins are also good for cleaning shoes......rub the inside of the skin against the leather and then buff up to a good shine with a clean duster.
As for the wool socks thing......I have found that this doesn't work so well.......the snow compacts between the knitted stitches and then you are back to a no grip situation. |
Re: Walking in Snow : A Tip
If you realy have to go out but dont want to slip this tip works every time..............get some other idiot to go for you and you can then stop in front of the fire.:D
By the way if anyone is going to town today i could do with...............:D |
Re: Walking in Snow : A Tip
Mick, you have the right idea.......wonder if you'll get any takers?

You can get snow chains for shoes, just like you can for your car's tyres.

Re: Walking in Snow : A Tip
Re banana skins/orange peel. As long as they are not thrown on the pavement after use! Many years ago a great aunt of mine, slipped on one on Pearl Street. She ended up with one leg shorter than the other and had to wear one of those horrible, huge, shoes for the rest of her life. Poor Aunty Maggie!

Atarah. Just re-capping. Was it in Peel St or Orange St that she came a pearler? Was she a skinny woman? Was she a slip of a woman? Fruity like you? (This'll get Katex going)

Re: Walking in Snow : A Tip
I bought two pairs of Wellies at the beginning of December, one pair is excellent(has good 'tread' on the soles) the other pair are not very comfortable and not much good in snow.....little tread on the soles.
