Bruises - How to heal them quicker?

This may seem a silly question, but does anyone know if there is anything you can do to help speed up the healing and soreness of a bruise more quickly.

I have three large and very sore bruises on my hands and wrist which hurt like mad everytime I use my hands.

Arnica gel is supposed to be good for healing bruises. You can get it from health food shops.

They should have some in Holland and Barratt.

Arnica gel - needs applying at the time the bruise happened - works for burns and scalds too - a natural remedy which I always have to hand -perhaps get some in for next time, will help a little now but wont be as effective

ps - try calendula cream - good for chapped hands

Lavender oil will help take the soreness out, as Margaret noted Arnica needs to be used when the bruise is 'new'.

I'll give the lavender oil a go and see if that helps.

Thank you

Julie, you only need a few drops in a carrier oil(something like almond oil...or cheaper and just as good rapeseed oil)...another remedy, but you'd have to get this at the chemists is icthammol...it is brown and gungy and smells abit like coal tar....you plaster it onto some lint and then bandage it to the affected bruise...everyone will avoid you, but it does work...and you won't be able to do the washing up with bandaged hands.

Oh, well that is Ok then! It won't beat Chanel No 5.
I used to love putting icthammol dressings on when I was nursing.

Would be important to know how you sustained these bruises in the first place Julie ... presume you know that it is not a sprain or a break ? Sure you do .. can't help with the pain, but most bruising is not that serious .. just remember only the blood dispersing under the skin, has to go somewhere.

Was always cold compresses/ice when I was younger and only thing that appears to reduce swelling and discomfort still .. oh, and try not to bang 'em again... x

She has No 5 as well( and a load of other smelly stuff that costs a fortune ).

Not sure whether I'm just a freak or what but Coal Tar soap smells lovely IMHO. Its a really fresh, clean smell to me.

Oh an BTW, we've had a dishwasher for 8 years now, wouldn't be without it!
