Flat Cola helps an upset stomach

Just thought Id share this one with the ones that didnt know, but flat cola is said to ease an upset stomach. I thought that was just one of the "strange" things my mum used to give us to make us feel better but the doctor suggested it to me today for my boys (they have had that nasty stomach virus for a week) so if being advised this my a doctor then it must work

Re: Flat Cola helps an upset stomach

It certainly does but I find you need to use full fat coke with the sugar in it, not diet. I must admint i drink it fizzy, you just stir it up to make it go flat slinks.

I find ginger ale work as well, something about the ginger in it I think.

Re: Flat Cola helps an upset stomach

I got told to drink ginger ale and eat ginger biscuits to help morning (or all day in my case) sickness when I was pregnant - that helped a little

You're right. For some reason diet coke does not have the same effect. I couldn't believe it when I first heard about this but have since tried it out and it does work.

Re: Flat Cola helps an upset stomach

Remember years ago my doctor told me the same thing about flat coke, but he also said to eat a bag of salt and vinager crisps. Strange but it does work.

Re: Flat Cola helps an upset stomach

Homemade rehydrating solution - it really works - used it many times

Important use the quantities as shown to get the best effect of absorption through the lining of the gut

one level teaspoon of salt
eight level teaspoons of sugar
one litre of clean drinking or boiled water and then cooled
Stir the mixture till the salt and sugar dissolve.

No thanks Margaret - that would put my salt level up and over the limit.

I got it from a medical website

It replaces salt lost by diarrhoea - so shouldn't have any adverse effects

If you've been out on the lash a bottle of ginger beer first thing in the morning before anything else, puts you right back on your feet, I know because I used it most mornings for many years when working away from home
