re cyril kenyon saw him today in the new blackburn market he now lives in the phillippines i worked for him in the early 80s when he had a couple of betting shops he's 76 now but still going strong and i once got thrown out of the old wine lodge it was just a bit higher up than the grosvenor pub past thwaites arcade it had a little off sales bit at the front we used to go in and buy australian white wine and go up on the car park to drink it be about 16 then and later started drinking there was all wood floors and a lovely polished bar and when you got the wine it came in a glass called a dock

Those were the days used to meet in the wine lodge for a couple of docks of Aussie white before starting work at the Cav, we weren't allowed to drink on duty;)

Looks like the Wheatsheaf to me wadey near to the Mecca

it was the Wheatsheaf n owd Thwaites house, used to sup in, have a great tale about that, but sure aint fer general consumption.:D;)

Sorry to disagree with Jaysay and Cashman but that is the Dunn Horse.

Dunn Horse was on opposite side Roy n sure twas not a Thwaites house?:confused:

Sorry again Cashy, The Wheatsheaf was on the same side. If you look at the photo, near the traffic lights is the sign for the wheatsheaf. The Dunn Horse was a Thwaites house as was the Wheatsheaf.

Definately the Dunn Horse, wheatsheaf on the other corner, last time I was around there it's name had been changed to the stage door.

cheers fer straightening it up roy, yer correct, can see Wheatsheaf as yeh said in the pic,twas on corner of the street with blackburn mecca around corner. can remember going straight in yon when i was thrown out the mecca.:D;)

Thanks everybody, looking at some older photos The Stage Door was def The Wheatsheaf as you can see it cast into the beam on the side elevation

The Dunn was on the corner of Market St Lane and Mincing Lane.
