I remember the Stax Club, it was over the arcade and the place to go when I was a young teenager, they played Stax Atlantic music, my dad thought it was the equivalent of Soddom and Gomorrah for some reason! He banned me from going which made it so much more appealing for me as afourteen/ fifteen year old of course!

Because it was full of rough and undesirable people and considered lawless apparently! It was rough and ready, but also a good night out!

Quite right, Anne, it was and a really legendary club it was, too. But with a playlist dominated by the legendary Stax and Atlantic labels, it really couldn't go wrong in my eyes!

Groove thinks he would have enjoyed the Barbary coast and would have been one of the hardest men down there.

sorry for the delay Jaysay...not been too good of late....anyway, The STAX CLUB ..
Used to get off No46 Accybus on boule, buleov, BUS STATION, then cut through Cathederal grounds, coming out of the side (Church st.) entrance. I think the club was roughly around this area, across the road and up some steps.. (was there an arcade or several shops around the same area?)... well we called in there quite often, it was a good little club.... ;);)
