I remember my sister getting a bionic women doll with all these little microchip things and I was so jealous. I loved my Magic Roundabout toys and my wombles. Then there was my Caveman 'handheld' arcade game that was huge.

A Girls World rindy that was called because i had the one with brunette hair and my niece had one with blonde hair. I also had a bionic woman as well until my niece lost all the bits out of her. Tiny Tears until my niece tried to dye the hair with her felt tips and draw tattoos on her.

My Chatty Kathy doll was my pride and joy, also one called April Showers which was a baby doll sat in a little yellow bath with attached showerhead, when you filled the bath up with water & squeezed the little pump thin the shower actually worked - kept me amused for hours :)

Re: toys of the 70's and 80's

I had a building set called "Bako" with wall blocks and windows and doors and roofs. There were flat windows and curved windows and all different sorts of things to add embellishments. You started off by putting metal sticks into holes in the base board and then sliding other things onto them. I suppose it was for budding architects. I don't know whatever happened to it. I would have loved to get additional kits to make bigger and more interesting buildings but my Mum & Dad never did buy me any more. :(

No Tressie was like a cheap Cindy or Barbie. She had a screw in the back of her head, which lengthend or shortend her hair when you turned it.

By the way I didn't really have one, but I remember my cousin's Tressie.:D

I had Super Girls World, she had blonde hair, her eyes changed colour (if you hit her on the side of her head) and she came with hair dye, we had a lot of Sindy stuff between the three of us, teeny tiny tears, I had a Simon as well and loved it, we also used to have sweet shops and post offices which were great.

Stickle bricks - the poor persons lego
Tressie - yep, had one of them plus had a Lone Ranger doll instead of a Ken doll - kept making them get married and ride off into the sunset together. ;)
Also had Pippa dolls - there were about 100 in the series, 97 women and 3 men dolls. :D
Stylophones - nearest I ever came to mastering a musical instrument
Mastermind - can still buy these
Rubics cube - used to cheat by peeling off the stickers - and did anyone ever try Rubics clocks or Rubics snake?

grego 05-01-2007 19:42

It was all about the 'drop' or if like me you had the 'launcher' which used an elastic band.(Of course I swapped it for a much stronger one for added 'zoom' :D )

I had one other rather annoying habit with my cars. I was never actually happy with the colours they came in so I used to scour the baskets outside car accessory shops for cheap aerosols. When I bought a car the first thing I did when I took it home was dismantle it and spray it a colour I liked(Which strangely enough was Black in 95% of cases! )

You should have gone down Charter Street and right onto lonsdale street instead Entwisi, the added danger of pensioners exiting the Post office on Thursdays gave the ride added zest!

entwisi 09-01-2007 18:25

Re: toys of the 70's and 80's

we did actually ride out bikes down charter street and down teh side of teh Springhill WMC because there was a manhole cover there that made you do big wheelies or a jump.

The PO was closed about that point. It was just a corner shop

shillelagh 09-01-2007 18:56

Re: toys of the 70's and 80's

Our rope swings swang over the brook and if you let go you went for a swim and went home full of mud and everything else that was in the brook. Especially if you went further up and saw the sheep and the cows in there. Council kept coming and taking them down and we kept putting them up. Now though where we had the rope swings theres no path because we scudded it away.

A video version of ping-pong, whose "ball" was a blip that bounced back and forth on screen between two paddles moved up and down by control dials in the hands of the players. Attachment 7899

Peter Powell stunt kites!

Forgot about those.

How the Radio 1 DJ found time to invent them, as well as hosting Seaside Special, and his radio show, we'll never know.:D

Have really enjoyed going through this thread. Me and my little brother used to make up all kinds of racing, jumping, smashing contests with Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. Also did some crazy things around the neighbor hood with racing and jumping bikes. Maybe an American thing but we used to set up tons of little plastic army men and play war !

When we'd ask me mum to buy us plastic machine guns and revolvers, bows and arrows, she tell us to use a stick and your imagination. It actually help us be quite creative (probably more so then she would of like:rolleyes:). Funnt thing when I ran into the house bleeding out my eye after my little brothers friend hit me right in the eye with a projectiled stick. It was a great shot but we all still got in trouble. Ah the simple life eh?

My sisters shared an easy bake oven, some Barbies, and had their own sticks!:p

Brian

Oh yeah, forgot to mentioned the infamous erector set!!!! But that was my big brothers'

Just found my favourite board game from the '70s. Haunted House. Fantastic. You had to put a ball bearing down the chimney, and it was down to chance which room it came down into, and made things happen, like an axe falling on you.:)
