The old flat roof houses on Lancaster Avenue.

Built during the war for the workers at the Bristol factory, I think
???
Used to live in one of those. They were cold & damp, but good family sized houses.

The Conservative Club dances on Saturday night in the 50's. Used to get the bus from 'Arrod and listen to the swing band sound of ??????.

Just before Rock and Roll took over.

Also remember Bob Whatmough & his band?

Bob used to have a grocers on Ormerod St. He used to sell biscuits from those big tin boxes with see through lids. We used to call him "Biccy Bob"

Used to love visiting him - told me all sorts of tales.

I used to live there too Cazzer...No 73....end house next to the lights!

I think it was Eddie McGarry. There was another Big Band played at Blackburn's St George's Hall.

Ted Heath had the national status.

Before you were born! Round about 1960 - 1963.
they were the old flat roof houses, long since gone, just accross from the park.

Cazzzer, there were several flat roof houses on Moss Hall Road, a lot, if not all of them have had their roofs converted into ridge roofs now.  Were they similar to the ones on Lancaster Avenue?

Think I know the ones you mean.

No, the ones on Lancaster Ave and around it were double fronted, redbrick houses.(not prefabs as a lot of houses put up just after the war were) They had large gardens back & front.
They had metal window frames and concrete floors, even upstairs!
We used to use those old brown Stantons pop jars as hot water bottles at the time, if they rolled out they got smashed!
As far as I know they were built during the war for the workers at the Bristol factory (aircraft), which I think was based at the GEC site.
They were later used as part of the general council housing stock.
Not sure about the origins of the Moss Hall Road ones. Do you mean the ones that looked a bit like seaside chalets? Always reminds me of a place in Blackpool down there.
