I remember or have "heard of" most of them lads Bicky....I reckon they were a few years older than myself...I didn't have Vito and Isaac marked down as mod dudes:D

I knew Tony and his wife Pauline back in the Late 70´s. He worked with my dad (Dougy Jackson) at Blackburn Group Training centre - teaching the young apprentices engineering. Nice guy.....

I remember Tom Robinson from way back, if it's the same Tom that was in a band years ago. Le Faulves. Please ask, silly name but they were ok. I think a guy called Rufus was also involved. Did a couple of gigs at Accy jaz club. Way back.

Remember both Tom and Rufus, Toms Dad used to be a goalkeeper played for Manchester City another name that springs to mind from the era was Tony Jenkinson Jinks to his mates

Re: The Deck

Florrie was (and I would imagine, still is) a great bloke. Remember sitting on the deck as a naive 16-year old in 1967. Florrie (along with Isaac) tipped me off to loads of great blues artists like Junior Wells, Elmore James and Albert King...people who I still like to this day. An excellent musical education!

Vito had been on the "pop" for awhile prior to getting to the club, we bumped into him in the Arden...he'd had a few by then. He was telling me about one day when he called into the Calder for a Cappuccino, me & Les nearly dropped our pints at the thought of Vito going into a pub & ordering a coffee!!:D

An Oliver Rowley worked in the warehouse at WF Chambers cotton mill on Victoria Street the factory bottom) in the late 1950s/early 1960s. Chambers closed this mill in the early 60s and I lost touch with Ollie as we all had to find jobs elsewhere.

Just thinking about the deck, I possibly had stood on there long before any of you say 1952 when local football teams meet to catch the bus to King Georges or Highams, when the bus to Clayton stopped there as it came from the Black Dog in Ossy, and I think Woolworth was still a 3d and 6d store. Dutton St had men and ladies toilets, Lingards in the market hall sold white keel German butter loose beautiful.
We also waited on the deck on a Wednesday night or Saturday night for mates to walk home to Clayton after taking some lucky girl home from the con, (you could fairly smoke some cigs waiting) and I can remember the first time the pictures opened on Sunday

I'd agree, Jay, and I knew Willie back in the day, as he was a good mate of me dad's. Stood there supping shorts with him and the old feller many a time in the deep end at the Stop! ;)

One long parade of young people.

Wasn't a Calder or Blue Dahlia in those days, so 'cept for the Sunday Schools, local dances, where else could you go to meet a future spouse ?

Does anyone remember "Geordy, the paper seller from Blackburn, selling his "Last Pinks" at the bottom of St James St across from the deck. He wore a flat cap, a long rainmack buttoned down to his ankles, and pinned to his mack were his war medals. Rumour was he had nothing on under his mack. He was certainly a Accy personality in those days

I can remember two of them selling papers .

Geordy was a short , stocky man , and I think the Sid you refer to was a thin , wiry man .

If I remember rightly , one stood at the corner of St James St and the other nearer Church St .

I don't think he would have been able to take her home. He lived in the Salvation Army hostel in Blackburn
