Incidentally, Cashman, "Supergirl" - Graham Bonney's a crackin' record. I commend your good taste!

Another top record and one that used to regularly fill the floor at Accy Disco back in '67.

Re: Take me back.(soul)
"Supergirl" was one of my favourites. Graham Bonney was very popular in Gemany in the late 60s early 70s. He had one hit there I remember called "Siebenmeilenstieffel"

Re: Take me back.(soul)
Good grief, haven't thought about the Twisted Wheel for years! - used to get down there when I shared a flat in Manchester - never will I forget the night I was chatted up by this gorgeous creature in a Beatles-type suit, who offered to run me home - had a sports car!!! - got back, nobody else around the flat, thought "This is my lucky day" - then SHE took her jacket off! I honestly hadn't realised - short haircut, looked masculine, etc. She was very nice about it, though!
Don't remember the Torch in Stoke - but didn't move there until much later and didn't start going out down there until about 1970 or so - used to go to the 007 club and various other joints. The attraction at the 007 was not so much the music as their compere who was a great comedian, and of course the lads used to go to see the strippers! |

I only went down the wheel half a doz times, the Oasis, Flamingo as well. In Manchester, there was a great mod shop I used to buy gear from, but cant think of its name, it was down a side street accross from Lewises dept store. Harry Fentons was pretty good too. Thanks, Wynonie & Cashman, for your definitions on N. S.

Soul Deep was great. I even postponed my trip to the pub for it! Can't wait for the Sam Cooke story next week. The Velvet Satins, Kurt Harris - crackin' records from the Wigan Casino era. Remember Tony Clarke's "The Entertainer"? A pre-Northern soul record...in fact, yet another floorfiller from Accy Disco 1967!

Also, nice to see some of the often-forgotten rhythm & blues pioneers getting some exposure in Soul Deep...Louis Jordan, Ruth Brown, Big Joe Turner. Pity they didn't mention Wynonie Harris, but you can't have everything!
