Neon Socks

Today a customer was looking for table linen in a bright pink, explained we had dyed up cloth in Neon colours .. now most people would understand immediately (they glow under ultra-violet). Hard to describe colours over the phone, but think I am reasonable at this after 30+ years in the industry.

Well, ya' know like the colour of Teddy Boys socks in the 50's? Seeing as he was only 47, didn't get it. Bet some of you lot do ...

Re: Neon Socks

I get it and I'm not 47 yet. Would have thought most people would understand that.

Re: Neon Socks

not sure if there is a difference between Neon and day-glo colours but both should be left to teenagers, and definetly no one with 47 year old skin or teeth should be anywhere near UV light unless its for medical reasons

Re: Neon Socks

Teddy boys' socks didn't need ultra-violet lights - they glowed on their own. They were essential on dark nights as you couldn't hear teds approaching, with their thick crepe-soled shoes on, so the strip of sock showing at the bottom of the drainpipe trousers acted as a warning light to prevent collisions and the possible entanglement of beehive hairdos in Bryllcremed quiffs.

Re: Neon Socks

Weren't they called fluorescent socks? They came in lime green, yellow, pink and orange.

You certainly didn't need ulraviolet lights to see them peeping from between the drainpipe trousers and the brothel creepers.

When Direct DJ was christened his God Father attended the church in his Teddy boy gear.
He looked ever so smart. Complete with brothel creepers and fluorescent sox.

Re: Neon Socks

At the same time as the socks,, us girls had white plastic jackets,,
Me and my best friend Frances decided they were a bit grubby so we sponged them down with washing up liquid ,all was fine until it rained ,and we were both covered in froth ...
