I have Norton thats provided by BT. If you have an anti-virus firewall antispyware etc whether it is free or payed for there should be no issues provided it updates regular. Mine searches automatically at fixed intervals. In the past I had free AVG and that also updated regularly.

Falshy they aren't stupid Qs, only what you want to allow to access teh net, get it wrong and its worse than having no firewall installed at all

I know a silly little man that has a thriving business and uses online banking for both home and business with no firewall or anti-virus ... I think he's mad!

Ubuntu Linux is an operating system much like windows, but you can count the number of viruses on one hand :p

Yes is very true , ive got aol platinum and is £30.00 a month and is not worth it really. However the connection is really fast and becuase the aol is so much i do get the security free. However i think where going to change to a better price plan. Weve got sky and are looking at that sky broadband but i dont know how good it is. Anyone got any other suggestions for any good internet services? (Just Changing The Topic A Bit Hehe)

Re: which protection ?......

Paying for anti virus and firewall is cheaper than paying for a new PC anyway.

Incredible that anyone running a business can be mad enough to do their banking online with no protection whatsoever!

It gets better. His whole business strongly depends on the computer system. If something awful happened it could run on a 'back to basics' with paper and pen but it runs much more efficiently with the computers.

IMO he's crazy! No firewall or virus and he thinks nowt of getting the lads in the office to half a look at his latest find with undesireable websites, which I'd guess are riddled with bugs and stuff.

Ok I have AVG which is for Viruses yes?? But what Zone Alarm/Firewall/Spybot?? Should I really have them?? If so is there any free ones?

entwisi 16-01-2007 07:32

Re: which protection ?......

depends on your vbersion of AVG, they did start includinga firewall. If you don't have one then you need to get one!

go here http://www.grc.com/default.htm and down the bottom follow the Shields up test. This will tell you how good (if at all) your firewall is.

Spybot/Ad-aware are malware/spyware scanners, these are highly recommended as they will make sure you haven't inadvertedly installed some dodgy software that is reporting home.

Lolly 16-01-2007 11:13

Re: which protection ?......

Cheers for that. it says its completley protected. no problems!!!

where can i get the free version of avg

Re: which protection ?......

County hall and all lancs cc machines run Sophos which is supposed to be vv good - we've got an ntl lan-broadband connexion which automatically runs ntl's firewall which seems to be ok ... so far so good
