Broadband & networking

Definitely need to go on broadband! Can't have NTL, no cable up here!
Which is the best one (don't say AOL, did trial wasn't impressed)

Want to network two computers.  Is any patricular one the best for this?

Hi Cazzer. We have had a venture both sides of this broadband thingy....we are sorted now......ntl is best...If you get the N.T.L we can advise with the networking.

We use a router and a hub, connected to the set top box, system works great, we network 3 pc's and our server. Can't complain but there's wires allover the place...

At one time i did have two computers networked to mine, allowing them to access the net through my computer (im on BT broadband btw), but after formatting my computer a few times because of virus's i couldnt be bothered networking them back together for around the 5th time . .

I would say the NTL package would be best, as for networking you've several options, buy a small 4port hub or switch, or even easier ensure youve got network cards in both machines and use a cat5 x-over cable and share the internet connection, can be done easily from win98 upwards.

Re: Broadband & networking

NTL would probably be my first choice, but I don't live in a cable area. Definitely wouldn't go with BT.

I'm on Virgin dial up now and their service has been great, might give them a try. You only have to give a months notice with them if you're not happy anyway.

Re: Broadband & networking

Virgin dial up has been brilliant, fast server - no probs. Just disconnects you if you've been on a while, and they do that 10min idle time thing.
But it reconnects automatically so it's not a problem. only £13.49 too.

Need the phone line and to network two computers though.
