hacked

Monday i was hacked.....im still seething
Im also really petrified they can still get into my email for my new details if its spyware they used.
how invaded to i feel :(
Seems to be sorted out now although im still sending messages to people who are expecting payment from me for mobile phones my little hacker friend decided totry and treat him/herself to.(in my mind it was a guy).
Im so lucky that my password for paypal was different to my ebay password.
Whoever it was got into BOTH my email and ebay account although those passwords were different.
They also changed the info such as postcodes and town so i couldnt even get into my account via phone because they ask for personal details like that to verify identity.....
this post is going to be extended into the over 18's so i can write what i really think about my personal lil' hacker...

Re: hacked

this is not spyware, its a trojan. (spyware is only interested in marketing info, trojans are password/etc stealers)

I would not use anything like ebay, email, paypal etc till you have done a full scan with absolute up to date virus software. I would even be tempted to try one of the online ones in addition to whatever you have installed to be doubly sure.

I would also be tempted to reset all program permissions on your firewall to ask and then only allow those you know for sure to be safe. i.e. don't just allow every program to access teh net, only stuff like email and your browser. be very careful about programs with obscure names, google each and every one that you are unsure of so you know exactly what it is.

Re: hacked

Keyloggers basically record all keypresses on your computer to a text file and then send it home. its quite easy to work out passwords from teh resulting file

a very very usefull tool

once installed you dont need to touch teh persons pc again it will email you logs of every key they press inclusing usernames and passwords , msn converstaions and even can be set to take a screenshot every 5 mins or 2 mins etc so you can look at what they were looking at

pretty sneaky but cool , i have them on my computers so i can look back afterwards at what my kids have been saying and looking at on the net

most key loggers can be picked up by programs lie adaware , avg etc but i noticed when instaling my keylogger there was an option to make it so that they couldnt and it worked because my avg dosnt pick it up even though it is actualy running

depends on how good a key logger they have installed if any , if a key logger has been installed i would be looking at visitors who you give access to your computer to unsupervised as they take a while to set up propperly

It’s a big burly chap who goes around cutting down keys.

OK! Seriously! Just like for viruses the anti-keylogger software is only as good as the latest update. And it can’t be updated until a new keylogger comes along, is identified as such, located on a computer and the details sent off to the anti-keylogger software people.

But there are ways that you can protect yourself. If you don’t use the keyboard then the keylogger will have nothing to report. So for sensitive things like logging in details either copy and paste from a secure source or use RoboForm.

Then there is this. http://goldentalk.com/showthread.html?p=111527#post111527 post 35.

What a ****** misskitty! Hope you manage to get it sorted quickly.

By coincidence I was just looking at the Windows updates websites and noticed cyberdefender, an internet security suite. I presume I don't need another internet suite with having Nortons?

These keyloggers sound worrying  How serious are they to a normal home user? To avoid being caught out by these keylogger things is it better to have websites 'remember' your passwords so you don't have to type it out?

Rootkit? Whats those all about then? Should the home user have one?

I know security is paramount on the pc but when you hear of someone getting hacked, unfortunately this time misskitty, it sort of sends you into a panic.

I know its really giving me a shock-unfortunatly it also means im not letting anyone use my computer any more (laura uses it often),not because i think they are doing anything deliberately but sometimes my friends go on sites i would steer clear of,mean i know but its better to be safe than sorry...i have learnt the hard way :(
