Mouse trouble
I've got an optical mouse which is behaving oddly. If it was a mouse with a ball I would assume the ball was mucky or stuck up with fluff or something.
What is happening is that sometimes nothing is happening. When I move the mouse the cursor doesn't always move. It's as if it's stuck there. This is not good when doing the quiz as it refused to move to the check score thingy and so looked like I'd taken longer than I had. Any ideas what I can do? (Don't say buy a new mouse!) |
Re: Mouse trouble
We go through alot of optical mice. They dont cost so much now Willow, all different sizes etc at asda.Between£5 and £8.:)

Re: Mouse trouble
This is only new - it glows.

Re: Mouse trouble
is it for ya laptop willow?
know someone who had one and it kept stopping but came back on when restarted the laptop, might be conflicting with something, that or its buggered!! |
Re: Mouse trouble
Mine does that when the batteries are low.
|
Re: Mouse trouble
No, it's for the desktop. I've reverted back to my non glowing one for now.

Re: Mouse trouble
have you tried cleaning the window bit underneath the mouse. Do you use a mouse pad? If so is it dirty. Try using the mouse on a different surface and see if it works better then. I use mine straight on the desk and it works fine.

Re: Mouse trouble
I tried it directly on the desk but no difference and I did a bit of a dust of the mouse's bottom.

This actually reminds me of something very funny. My mate bought a pc and she has a glass PC stand. She kept trying the optical mouse but nothing happened. So we borrowed another mouse off her neighbor...still nothing. In the end we thought it was the USB port that wasn't working so we swapped it.....still nothing. after a while of thinking what could be wrong, I picked a piece of card up and put the mouse on it and it worked perfect :D:D the moral of the story is..........MOUSES DONT WORK ON GLASS :o:D |

Re: Mouse trouble
We've got some rat poison in the shed but I somehow don't think it will help. :D

Re: Mouse trouble
I'm stuck with a mouse that doesn't need glasses (OPTICAL PROBLEMS) and happy with that, just have to de-fluff it every now and again.

Re: Mouse trouble
optical mouse is that a new spirit ?
|
Re: Mouse trouble
I think my kids used to be heavy handed when I had a mouse with a ball and the balls were always getting pushed in somehow so they didn't work - hence the desire to go optical which I do find much more manoeuverable (sp?) under normal circumstances.

Re: Mouse trouble
Can I ask a very dumb question? I'm going to anyway....Is an optical mouse the same thing as a wireless mouse or are they just related by marriage :)
|
Re: Mouse trouble
No, wireless is as it says no wires.
Optical does not have a ball. It uses a light and sensor under the mouse that detects that the mouse is being moved and in which direction. |
Re: Mouse trouble
Well, i'm proper flummoxed.....my mouse has no ball (OK...don't laugh) and it has a light underneath......and it is wireless....but it isn't optical then???????
|
Re: Mouse trouble
It sounds like you have a wireless optical mouse.
|
Re: Mouse trouble
I've got one of those and mine started doing that. A mate of mine said are you using a mouse mat and i said yes he said is it a picture one and i said yes and he said chuck your mouse mat and use a one with no picture on it or just use the desk. The sensors dont like having different patterns to bounce off. Tried that and it worked for about 5 mins and started again. Failing that i swapped it over from the one with the 8 pin holes in and stuck it in my usb ports.

Re: Mouse trouble
It sounds like the optical gubbins in your mouse is on the verge of going belly up or if it is not a wireless mouse it could be break in the lead at the mouse end or the other end.
On the other hand if it is a USB mouse with a PS2 adapter it could be bad contacts somewhere. Try your wayward rodent on someone else’s computer. If it still misbehaves then there is only one thing for it – a new mouse. My post “A Mouse Without A Tail” might interest you. |
Re: Mouse trouble
just stick with the old one
