I Am Making A Web Site
Hi Sorry i havent been on recently but i am making a website and need sum elp how do i get it so it is www.myurl.com (example) then does it cost anything cause im only 13 and can't pay loads and then is there a way i can do it for free.
very much apperciated Tom p.s my website is on accrington from history to sport i will add accyweb to my links when complete. |

I'm afraid if you want to have your website as www.yoururl.com then you will have to pay. You have to purchase yoururl and then pay a yearly fee. It usually costs about 12 quid a year, so it really isn't that expensive. Once you have yoururl (domain name) you will then need hosting. Hosting is when you have some space on a server that is permanently connected to the internet that your url will point to. This also costs money, but for your usage you would probably only be looking at 20 quid a year. There are ways to have websites for free, but I am not sure on that, maybe some of our other users can help you out there....

Some websites cost 200 quid a month! It depends how busy your website gets. If you want to look at some pricing and get some ideas for your url have a look over at http://www.easyspace.co.uk - and if you want to actually buy anything then come back to me, i can do you a much better deal than easyspace! :)

When I was 13, I wasn't trying to do what your doing. Good luck! I'm with NTL broadband (cable). Each customer gets 55MB of free web space All you have to do is design your WebPages using whatever software i.e. Ms FrontPage or some other. I've been using Serif Web Plus 8.0 Then upload your pages to the host (NTLworld) using Terrapin FTP. Below are a couple of sites which lets you build for free your own web site. I like the Angelfire. If your using notepad then goto www.Trellian.com/codepad
and download there notepad it puts the html code in colour so its easy to sort out. |

You can get a good free website (50 megs) with no advertisements at
http://www.angeltowns.com/ They have a page builder of sorts but you're best doing the HTML in Notepad from your browser, good luck with that! A good site for HTML reference is http://www.lissaexplains.com/ very easy to follow. Also if you want a shorter web address for free you could try http://shorturl.com/ You just have to put a small graphic at the bottom of one of your pages. There are lots of places on the web you can get free counters and other goodies, but you have to be careful that a condition of using them doesn't included having pop ups. So always check first. :rose8: One I heard about was freewebs no pop ups and really easy to use you just type what you want on the page and it does it for you, you can also add pictures or even put on a chat board.Have a look see what you think.http://members.freewebs.com/

I have an account with 1 and 1 and have found them to be unresponsive. Not only that, they offer loads of 'free' software which you end up having to pay for and then the stuff they send is angled towards the German market. Tell me, what use is a search engine lister that only lists on mainly German search engines? I won't be using them again and I would advise anyone else against using them.

I too have heard bad reports about 1 and 1. Not only that but i'm pretty sure they use there own developed control panel for hosting which is supposed to be a bit of a nightmare. They are originally a german company, which branched into the uk and now is hitting the usa with massive ad campaigns in the press and what have you, this is how they are getting there customers..
If anyone is serious about hosting and wants to be on a decent server with good uptime and cpanel as a control panel then look no further than me!! get in touch and i can put you on the accyweb server. You already know it's practicly never down and runs pretty quick!! :) Good prices as well! ;) |
