BT were having problems in Great Harwood last week, but one of my neighbours who uses Tiscali (or whatever it's called this week) posted this to the Great Harwood forum:

Re: BT or Tiscali ... where is the fault ?
ask your neighbours if theyre having problems with the internet ... if they are then theres a good chance it could be the phone lines ... if not have a go at tiscali or whatever it is ..

I did ring my provider and how embarassing was that ! He suggested I try putting the telephone plug attached to the filter in the second socket ... the one the main socket holds (have to unscrew it). This made sense as would prove was the 'phoneline. After further conversation ... rang the offending 'phone from my mobile to just prove what I was talking about. Guess what !! The internet did not disconnect, and has not done since. :o Looks like it has sorted itself out now ... just a glitch as they say. Thanks all.. x |

What made me laugh though when I was onto the advisor at Talk, Talk (from a far away country) was that he remarked... "Ah yes, can hear crackling on your 'phone which will be a fault". Had to explain was not on the offending 'phone, but my other landline ... :rofl38: |
Re: BT or Tiscali ... where is the fault ?
LOL. It must have been a stroke of luck then that he made the right suggestion. You probably made his day!

Oh no, Gobbiner, didn't do that whilst he was on the 'phone .. takes too long to find me screwdriver. Just rang the 'phone to see if the Internet went down again and it didn't.

This is so you disconnect all extension and equipment from the line and plug your filter and modem straight into the line. Often the problem is mistakes with filters and extensions. I prefer the ADSL master socket front, it replaces the original one and has a phone and modem socket on it and you dont need the horrible little filters. Its the way BT first installed ADSL and they are now using them again as it can improve speed by removing the issues with internal wiring. Its the way I had my ADSL before I switched to the much better Virgin service. |
