Re: Video codecs

file types can be miltple as soon below - but even with this lot installed I still have files that are blurred.

The K-Lite Codec Pack has a couple of major advantages compared to other codec packs:
- It it always up-to-date with the latest versions of the codecs.
- It is very user-friendly and the installation is fully customizable, meaning that you can install only those components that you really want.
- It has been very well tested, so that the package doesn't contain any conflicting codecs.
- It is a very complete package, containing everything you need to play your movies.

There are three versions of the K-Lite Codec Pack: Basic, Standard and Full.
K-Lite Codec Pack Basic contains only the most essential things. It contains everything you need to be able to play the most popular and widespread formats. It is small enough to fit on a single floppy. Also great for including on your movie CDs.
K-Lite Codec Pack Standard contains everything you need to play all the commonly used formats. This package should be enough for the average user.
K-Lite Codec Pack Full contains even more codecs. It also has encoding support for the various formats. This package is for power users and people who do their own encodings.

Re: Video codecs

It was in English!!!!!

So can I assume you have installed the FULL set? personally I would uninstall it. try and play the file. Again, I am assuming Windows Media player here, correct me if incorrect. WMP should prompt you to download the codec from microsoft. let it do it( not a dodgy copy I hope although I don't think they check for codecs). Tell us the result.

I'm not a fan of 3rd party codec packs, its too easy to get something a bit screwy.

Re: Video codecs

thanks for the replies - I have tried various different codecs packs (and they didn't really do much so I uninstalled them) and still with certain video the picture obviously needs some help. The operating system is legitimate but the windows media player does not offer any help, it just plays the file like its out of tune.

I remember having a similar problem after installing a fresh operating system and then eventually finding a codec pack that will play all files. I even had the same problem trying to play a video file from the Lancashire Evening Telegraph archive, so obviously there must be a codec or file needed to install to play different files.

Re: Video codecs

how does it do with just a prerecorded DVD?

could it be a resolution issue? (Zoom?)
