scart or phono

is it better to use scart sockets or phono plugs when playing with dvds and videos

Without doubt it is better to use a scart lead. However there are different quality scart leads. Best rule of thumb is to get the best one you can afford. Also miss out on gold pins - they cost a bomb and as the sockets are not gold plated you may get a slight signal loss.

Personally I don't think it matters but it goes without saying that phono plugs have been around for a lot longer than scart, I would advise you to use whatever you feel better with.

Scart all the way for me. Although on a older tv set, scart wont matter to much because its old. On the other hand hook a scart or s-video cable from a dvd player or the like to a plasma tv and prepare for total satisfaction  ;D

Re: scart or phono

scart are a pain in the @#$% by phono i'm guessing you mean what we call in oz RCA i much prefer to use them , there is no technical reason why scart is better than rca they are just wires on a plug , i think maybe the inventors of scart thought about expansion on their plugs thats why there is sooo much room to add extra wires but they're not needed. good gold plated rcas are fine

Re: scart or phono

defo scart leads are better providing they are 21pin and your tv has rgb but the only downside is the cheap ones come out of the tv to easy which caues no sound or doggy couler

Re: scart or phono

As others have said, Scart can carry more than just composite video. If you have more than one scart on the TV make sure you know which is RGB as usually only one is.

Re: scart or phono

funny tho with all the techy stuff u use with a tv how come they only have one or two scart sockets n phono 's

Re: scart or phono

Scart plugs are horrible clunky things, and a ****** to plug in if your reaching round the back of a tv/video. Given a choice I'd have RGB connected via BNC's (the bayonet fitting) for video any day of the week as you can tell exactly what is connected to what and it's not gonna fall out. You don't find Scarts on pro video gear after all.

Re: scart or phono

its rare u find em on owt these days Col, tho yeh i know what u mean u only have to touch the scart n it falls off its perch n all same colour so u dont know whats what ... joys of technology i'suppose lol

Re: scart or phono

Yeah, was a bit of wishful thinking on my part...I'd still have phonos over scart, even those are better than a big numb scart.
