Get Firefox!

Get Firefox Now!!

As soon as you start using it you will notice a faster and cleaner feel when browsing.

As soon as I turned my back on Internet Explorer I've never looked back. There are much better things in Firefox than IE.

Tabbed browsing.. Although Internet Explorer has started to use this aswell, Firefox's look much better and are easier to find etc.

Popup ads are blocked. It also tells you when its blocked an ad on a perticular site.

Google is built right into the top right hand corner of the Firefox window for easy searching!

There's much more stuff but Firefox is the best browser I've ever used. It's better than Explorer by leaps and bounds. I don't miss Explorer one iota. Give Firefox one day of surfing the web and you won't either.

:D

Re: Get Firefox!

So you've tried the other options as well have you?

:D

You need to at very least try Opera as one of teh other players in teh market. I use it on both Windows (work) and Linux (home) and its superior to firefox IMHO

Re: Get Firefox!

It is better & quicker in some ways to firefox & certainly windows but not all websites work on Opera :(

Re: Get Firefox!

Any specific ones you care to mention? You can always use the user agent to spoof it for that particular site. I've yet to find a site that isn't suported.

I love features like the voice tool that will read highlighted text to you. I can sit at work with a techie site open on a subject I want to brush up on, shade teh tex and click voice and it reads it out to me whilst I get on with work.

Or teh way that sites all have their own set of preferences so I can allow pop ups or images or cookies at a granular level very easily

or context menu (Right Click) that includes sensible options like search with and a selection of sites liek google, dictionary, etc

Or even a simple Go to URL option for where URLS are on web pages but not as a link,

Teh trash can to recover tabs you accidentally closed, thumbnail views of all tabs, teh list goes on

Also if your a keyboard person teh shortcuts are better configured ( Z is back instead of ALT Back Arrow.) One finger to rule teh world :D

Banking online doesn't work with opera.

I am a mouse using person - I did get a touch typing CDrom a while back and made good progress with it, but still had to look at the keyboard.
For the past few years I have resorted back to 2 finger typing because , on my left hand I have 2 fingers which are permenantly numb due to nerve damage in my neck.

I prefer Firefox but I do use Opera sometimes. I think it's all down to personal preference.

Hmmmmm, Perhaps you spoke too soon about firefox, I use it but wouldn't be so brash as to call it the dogs danglies as you have, until they stop sending urgent updates, (like the one I've just received) telling me the update is because:-

Stability Update:This release corrects several problems that were found in the previous release, Firefox 2.0.0.8.
The previous release lasted less than a month!

That makes it even better in my eyes, shows how quickly they fix bugs etc. and get it released to users! :)

Bring on more updates!

If you check all of the features they add when they release new Firefox versions, they do add a hell of a lot of useful stuff. I like everything they add each time they update!

Updates are great if, they are to fix early problems in the software, however if the update is because the last update caused greater problems than the fix it was supposed to do....

Then it is not something to have or, to praise.
;)

I am not going to go back through each update just to show you that a large amount of their fixes are to correct something they jiggled about with earlier,

Software engineer "Gosh Boss that is a real stinker of a cock up we made on version x.x.x.a/25, how can we correct it without people noticing?"

Software Manager "We'll do what we normally do, bury it in the middle of all those beta programs we need testing out then they'll never notice!"

Software engineer "yes but all the beta programs are even more unstable than the product, we'll get loads of complaints and have to do more upgrades"

Software Manager "You haven't been here very long have you Sonny? It is exactly because the thing goes out unstable that not only do we have long term jobs but we are always recruiting naive youngsters like you to do all the hard work!":D

Perhaps not knowingly, software is something that changes, a week a month perhaps a year from now, (yes I know a year is a long time for someone as young as you), you could be on here saying, "anyone using firefox is completely mad, you should be using the all singing all dancing 128 bit, bytey thingy it knocks spots off all the rest and because I'm using linux instead of microsoft I get an up date before the last version has finished loading",

(All face to the the antarctic and bless the god of open source),

HAPPINESS IS PENGUIN SHAPED.

(If you don't believe me ask entwisi, he'll put you right).
