I am steadily veering away from either the Nexus or the Kindle......in favour of the asus transformer. It has two camera's 1.2 megapixels and 5 mega pixels(8 megapix on the newer version - but these are still costly).
I might...only might, treat myself to one of these soon.

When I was looking into which tablet to buy I saw some poor reviews on the Asus Transformer but there are a few models of them

I would not buy one without going to have a look at one somewhere.......I guess it must depend on what you have been used to before.

I think some prfessional reviewers don't live in the real world...or maybe they have different expectations...comparing things with some other premium brands which cost a lot more money...you get what you pay for in this life.

Whatever I chose would probably be better than the generic tablet which I have now......and which has been good value because it has been used a lot(not just by - the children have enjoyed using it too).

Margaret as you have had such an abstemious Christmas I think you deserve a treat. Go for it, I can tell you really really want to... and let's face it the new Kindle was really only a replacement as you thought the other one was on its last legs.

I am not(by any stretch of the imagination) an impulsive buyer...and I also take what some reviews say with a pinch of salt.

I am going over to Manchester in the next couple of weeks so it will be a good opportunity to do a bit of research...and lunch out.
I am also watching what comes up on flea bay because sometimes people get things that they don't want or can't use and then they put them up for sale....there is no galloping hurry.

Have just been looking on Amazon and there seems to be lots of good reviews of the Transformer on there from real punters.

Can't speak for the tablet side of things but I have an ASUS 10 inch netbook and the keyboard seems the same - and I love mine!

Thanks Sue. It is always good to hear from someone who uses a product of a similar nature.
Most of the reviews I have read have been on the TF301 and they seem to be reasonable.
As I said previously your views will be very much dependant on what you want the thing for and what experience of other IT products you have had.
I just don't much care for Google play which seems to be where most android apps come from...maybe I will just have to bite the bullet in that respect.(If I take the plunge, that is)

Why not. Its pretty much the best market for android apps?. Which do you prefer ?

Re: Windows 7 home premium

I don't trust google, I haven't got a google account and I don't really want one.......I don't know...I just look for what I want(on the internet) and then try to download without going through google play.(and it isn't that I just want apps for free - I'm happy to pay my way)
It is getting much harder though to find apps which aren't distributed via google play.
you know how it is...you get a bee in your bonnet about a company(bing and talk talk are on my blacklist too - but I cannot give you a logical reason that you would understand)

Nexus 10" Aarrrrggghh...its got the name google attached to it.
And yes, I do use the google search engine but that doesn't require that you log in.
I know....I know it is irrational, illogical and probably downright daft...but humour me, I'm an old person:D.

Re: Windows 7 home premium

If you use Android then you really do need a google account. If you don't have one on a phone you miss out on one of the best features of the phone

Re: Windows 7 home premium

Neil, don't be silly...I don't have a smart phone. I have an old Nokia310.....or something like that. I can phone people on it(but only in the case of dire emergency)...and I can text people on it(again, only in the case of dire need).
it is mostly switched off and a £20 of credit will last me almost a year.
I can't get the attachment to all these smartphones...for a kick off I would need to carry a magnifying glass around my neck to see anything on the internet...but if I am out and about I don't think about the internet/wifi/gadgets.
I'm just the wrong generation for all that.
If I do get something new, then I will download the apps I have on my current generic tablet....but if I am going to have to run with google I might just give it the swerve altogether. I don't actually need one..it was going to be my plaything:D
