Re: Trojans?

May be the trojan is blocking it?? Not really clued up on how these things work though.

I have also never used anything but Norton and have never had a virus/trojan problem. Last computer mag I bought had them as the best too. Also use Firefox and Thunderbird for my browser and email - without doubt better then IE and OE.

Re: Trojans?

Are you able to do a system restore to the day before the problem arose Flashy??

Try this:
1. Go to the start button and then go to accessories.
2. Look for System Tools.
3. Go to the little box that says system restore and click on it. Hold your mouse over it.
4. Note that a new window appears with a button Restore Computer to an earlier time.
5. Click next then a calender will appear choose a date before you got the virus and continue.
6. Notice that your computer will restart and return to the condition it was in on the you selected.
7. Understand that if it does not, then go to Programs, select system restore, and all the files on your computer should be erased.

Tips

* System restore is only available in Microsoft's Windows Me, XP and Vista operating systems.
* If something tells you what file or folder the virus is in then go to my computer and delete the folder.
* If your computer lags just wait for it to smooth out.

Hope some of that helps!!

If it does work then your first act should be to download top quality AV software. Even if you have to pay for it.

Re: Trojans?

You'll want to print this so you can follow it...
  1. Open MS Paint (Start - All programs - Accessories - Paint)
  2. Image - Attributes then set the size to 10x10 (or something similarly small)
  3. Press {Ctrl-Alt-Del**
Maximise the resulting task manager by clicking the little square top right between the underline and the cross
  4. Open the "Processes" tab.
  5. Click on the "User name" column heading to sort the processes by user
  6. Press {Alt-PrtSc**
  7. Press {Alt-Tab** 'til you get to MS Paint.
  8. Press {Ctrl-V**
  9. Use "File - Save as" to save the resulting screen grab as file1.jpg (you'll also need to change the file type, and for second and subsequent saves, increase the file number. No need to start a new image document each time, just paste over the last one)
  10. Press {Alt-Tab** 'til you get to Task manager.
  11. Scroll down the list so the last item on the list, is now at the top of the window, then return to step 6 - don't forget to increment the file number in step 9. Exit this little loop once you've saved the entire process list
Post the JPEG images in this thread, & we can look through them to find your trojans
