Re: Tealeaf ????
Get an Englishman in - like Ron Greenwood, Graham Taylor, Glen Hoddle, Howard Wilkinson, Kevin Keegan etc. Bobby Robson and Terry Venables were the only decent English National managers of the last 25 years - and apart from respect what did they win? Nothing..........and dont suggest Alan Curbishley...seriously?
The players are good enough - its just the way Sven has us playing.....sitting on one-goal leads is not a good enough tactic. |
Re: Tealeaf ????
You missed the best Leeds manager of the lot who had the job for a couple of days... Then had a sniff of more money and left for somewhere with lots of sand (no not southport) Now what was his name again ? :)

Re: Tealeaf ????
Becks is still one of the best in the world.....yes he had a terrible tournament but you can't knock him down like you lot are doing.......your'e all sounding like the press always on Beckhams' back.....give it a rest.
We'll see in 2006 when Becks lifts the world cup for us........ |
Re: Tealeaf ????
I know, you are all making beckham a scapegoat, he cant play like superman every game ffs.

Re: Tealeaf ????
I don't know Kipax - what was his name? (Don Revie?) Honestly, I dont know who you mean!!
I too don't think that it is fair that Beckham is carrying the blame - but with four very average performances (worst England player performance wise IMO) and two penalty misses people are going to point fingers. I like the guy and never doubt his effort or commitment to England, but people need to realise that he isn't as good as some would have us believe. Put it this way - out of the four in midfield he is the expendable one, I would rather so Owen Hargreaves play. Yes I rate Hargreaves and I know many others who do, he plays regularly for Bayern, and IMO would offer more all over the pitch. |
Re: Tealeaf ????
Don Revie...honest it was on the tip of my tounge...wasnt he leeds manager when they had there best period as top team.... i seem to recall that he held the England job for just a few days then gets offered a managers job for millions by some arab and off he went never to be heard of again... treason some shouted...
beckham.. hmmm the jury is out for me... not ready to condemm him yet but he is skating on thin ice. hargreaves.. absoloutly... rated him from first game.... |
Re: Tealeaf ????
I think it's a shame that we have to have scapegoats, it seems to happen in every major tournament. Beckham has played well for England in previous tournaments and should be allowed the benefit of the doubt. :)

Re: Tealeaf ????
I think Beckham did a really good job as Captain, but it has affected his game. Give the lad a chance,,,he tried his best to give support to the rest of the Team.
Owen Hargreaves is a good player but needs some time in the Premier League to toughen himself up. Watched him a lot over here, and he's too light and easily robbed in possesion, But he has a future. As for English managers...well I don't think there are any really top-class ones around at the moment...John Toshack?? (I know he's Welsh, but beggars can't be choosers). |

I am absolutely gobsmacked that people are still posting garbage such as this. Is it being done just to wind people up, or do the likes of Smiffy really believe the tripe they write about Beckham? Or possibly Smiffy may have seen a diistorted version of the last few games because his head was submerged in a bowl of dog vomit....but for your benefit Smiffy, Beckham can't kick, can't pass, can't take penalties, can't tackle, can't defend, is'nt fit, etc, etc. He is (or was) very good at promoting his own image, which you may still wish to believe in...but some of us would one day like to see England win something, and while Beckham remains there is no hope. |
Re: Tealeaf ????
Have to disagree there Lettie - I honestly dont reckon Beckham has played well in any tournament Apart from the one free-kick v. Colombia in WC 1998, the splitting-pass to Owen v. Argentina in WC 1998 and one cross to Shearer v. Portugal in Euro 2000, he has been fairly average in these events. However, he has delivered more often than not in qualifying matches, the most notable being v. Germany, v. Greece, v. Turkey (despite missed penalty!). I wouldn't mind seeing Shaun Wright-Phillips on the right, he is more of a 'proper' winger and actually takes defenders on. Beckham could be tried in the middle, although I'd go for Lampard and Gerrard there anytime.
That's exactly my point Darby - there aren't any proven English managers. Steve Bruce is good and maybe one for the future, Alan Curbishley has done really well but he isn't International Class - I see Bryan Robson has just been sacked from Bradford City (again!). The FA wont have Venables back and he's been out of the game too long anyway, Bobby Robson will finish his managerial career at Newcastle. The only one I'd want is Bobby Robson and that ain't gonna happen.....so saying the solution is to get an Englishman in charge is blinkered nonsense. |
Re: Tealeaf ????
Beckham can't kick or pass Tealeaf? Hahahahahaha! I agree he is over-rated but you really have a problem with him dont you....?!

Re: Tealeaf ????
According to a psychiatrist in the newspaper the other day Beckham is possibly suffering from stress with a lot of things that have happened in his life affecting his ability to concentrate. It said he had all the appearance of suffering from clinical depression.
