I do hope that we will have none of this nonsense at the Crown next season, or at any other English football stadium for that matter (Scotland is different - they may be useful there to drown out the noise of any bagpipes and the whingeing noises of drunken Jocks).

I don't have the time to watch matches on TV, so I've been banking on listening to the radio. I have now stopped that because I have not been able to cope with the incessant noise. Those idiots in South Africa should be reminded that it is the World Cup in South Africa, not the World Cup of South Africa.

Quite simply, it is an absolute disgrace and the sooner this noise is stopped the better. It offers no entertainment nor in any way adds to the atmosphere but succeeds only in diminishing the concentration of the players with the result that so far, this has been the worst World Cup in my memory - and I go back a few years.

Maybe they are the mating calls of the 'primitive herd'/football fanatics :D

Wildebeest African Gnu | Blue and Black Wildebeest pictures
Blue Wildebeest or Gnu
The most common species found in Southern Africa.
Wildebeest, or gnus are noisy. They constantly emit low moans and if disturbed, snort explosively.

The sound levels from each microphone around the ground can be changed individually in the Audio Suite - each microphone, or group of microphones, has a seperate volume control.

The broadcast is no doubt controlled by SABC, but surely negotiations could be attempted.

I have been to a match in Cape Town - at the old Green Point stadium - Kaiser Chiefs v Somebody or other - poor standard and only a few trumpets, not the horrible cacophony that we are being subjected to.

Jen, you deserve a putty medal......but you'll have to have Karma instead.
I was fed up of football after the first 30 minutes of some match or other........and come next week ther will be Wimbledon as well to contend with.......that's another right load of balls.
Does anyone out there have a quiet cave I can borrow for the duration?

I agree with you Margaret, on Wimbledon. I'd rather watch paint dry than watch tennis. Hopefully we're still in the World Cup, and then Wimbledon can be totally ignored.
