Well my initial "selections" didn't go as planned, however thanks to "Camelot" (15/8) winning the big race at Newmarket & Chelsea (13/8 ) somehow managing to cling on to the F.A. Cup, I've still come out with a nice profit !! :D

And yes......... they were bets I decided to place after posting earlier !!!:o

Hell Wyn you did a real Steve McQueen there mate, they hadn't a snowball in hells chance of getting 6 points and a 6 goal turn round in the goal difference, we're talking Blackburn Rovers here not Barcelona:D

Arse hole nal let me down at the weekend, drawing 3-3 with Norwich.
Won a bit back on Monday backing Hibs to beat Dunfermline.
I've had to tweak my betting system, i've got one system that has a 100% record.
5 games backed 5 wins, a profit of £58.56.
I'm keeping it a secret, it can lose, but it ain't let me down yet.
Might have a final do with it at the weekend.:p

Chelsea were a good price i suppose 1/3 but they didn't need to win.
If in doubt leave it out.

Remember Heth a four fold has 81 perms on it !!!

You can put small amounts on your bets, and if you win, increase the amount's.

MMmm ... looks like that's a c-note down the tubes:mad: The LA Kings, of all bloody teams for chrissake, are ahead three games to zip in their best of seven series ... if the Kings take it, they will be the long shot in the final ... and it looks as if the New York Rangers will be the opposition. Well my bet's still alive ... although I hesitate to advise anyone to make a wager ... Two teams that should not have made it to the final are about to play for the Stanley Cup. This is the big one. If I had gone with the favorites ... well I didn't ... Vancouver Canucks went out in the first round to the Kings; and the New York Rangers lost to the New Jersey Devils in the semis. Still, it's a seven game series to decide the winner. I'm still going with the Kings ... but, who knows, betting on hockey is a mug's game.;)

I know less than nothing on ice hockey, so i don't bet on it.
Over 7 games you should be able to pick the winner, or are they evenly matched?

Most Stanley Cup finals go the whole 7 games ... and lots of OT, and OT is sudden death ... think you guys call it "golden goal" ... two great teams in the final ... The L. A. Kings have set a new record for consecutive away wins ... nine, I think ... L. A. won last nite, 2-1 in OT in New Jersey. Goaltending is always big in the final, and their netminders have come up big. The Devils have home advantage in the series: they play 4 games in their own barn ... but, they are playing a team that is the best in the league on the road ... it's a tough one to call ... but I'm still going with the Kings ... Oh, and don't listen to Jaysay ... for some reason he thinks hockey is a rough game.

Oh come on, just the lads letting off a little steam.;) The Sens and the Flyers don't seem to like one another, and sometimes things get a tad outa hand ... the refs let them go at it for a while, and then pull them apart when they get tired.

I've seen some pretty rough tackles in football, and not a few downright dirty players ... that Joey Barton, for example, the guy's a disgrace, and he hides behind the "no retaliation" rule ... He wouldn't get away with stuff like that in the NHL; someone with the nickname "Moose" or "Cement Head" (as in Mark "Moose" Messier, or Dave "Cement Head" Semenko) would skate over and clean his clock for him ... give the jerk an attitude adjustment ... and then the boys could get back to playing hockey.:theband:

I agree ... think he would be less of a problem if he knew the victim of one his dirty fouls wouldn't just lie there on the ground, pretending to be near death, or at least in agony, but would jump up and drive him one in the head.

I think that hockey is not all that much of a dirty game ... Remember when in football, the shoulder charge was legal? You gotta remember the Cup Final in '58 ... that controversial Nat Lofthouse goal, when he bundled Harry Gregg (and the ball) into the net? Most of the checking you see in hockey is quite legal stuff ... may look brutal, but if a guy has the puck, the shoulder charge is ok ... if he has the puck, and he has his head down, he will get creamed ... Wendel Clark once hit an L. A. defender, Bell, I think, so hard that he knocked him unconscious. No penalty. And no fights broke out. In football there is too much chippy stuff going on ... a lot of it the refs don't see ... it's that kind of dirty play that causes fights in hockey ... if a player is a victim of dirty play and the ref doesn't see it, he takes matters into his own hands, drops his gloves, and comes up swinging ... as a result, in hockey, you get far fewer of those dirty little plays.

By the way ... my bet is looking good ... L.A. won the second game, again in OT ... that means they head back to their own barn leading the best of seven 2-0 ... but that doesn't mean it's over ... the fat lady ain't singing yet.

Well back in the good old days men played football and if there was 1 yellow card (or in those days they just booked um) it was rare as for sending off it had to be attempted murder, but when clubs think nothing of pay £30 million for a player and they are so delicate ( you can knock um over with a stick of rhubarb) teams try to wrap players in cotton wool and refs are frightened of upsetting top managers and their Prima Donna's its no longer a sport its just a money making exercise:mad:

Similar things have happened in hockey too ... when I came to Canada, hockey goaltenders didn't even wear masks ... the first one to do so was Jaques Plante; and the only reason he wore it was that he had just had a bunch of stitches in his face, and he wanted to get back into the game ... Ed "Iron Man" Giacomin, who tended goal for the Rangers, was famous for stopping pucks with his face:eek: And the players didn't wear helmets. But the basic physicality of the game will never change; in fact, players are bigger, faster, and they shoot and hit harder.

Well, it was close last nite ... but I'm still waiting to collect ... The Devils won in L.A. 3-1 with some outstanding goaltending by 40 yr. old Martin Brodeur. And the Fat Lady is back to munching on donuts.;) So it's off to Jersey for game 5, with the Kings ahead 3-1 in the series. It was a very physical game, but for those who think it's a dirty sport, only eight fouls were called. And there were no fights.

Well ... it's over ... and I earned enough to drink Bomber for a week:theband:

The Kings took it in six ... and, not surprisingly, Jonathon Quick was the MVP of the series ... fantastic goaltending from Quick won the series for L.A.

Not a bad series ... much more exciting than the soccer Euros:D

Oh ... and while the yanks were crowing about the victory, they didn't see fit to mention that there are 15 Canadians playing for L.A.;)

Since the new football season started, i've opened up two betting accounts on t'internet.
£50 on Paddy Power and £40 on Skybet.
I've only got £5 left on my Skybet, and my Paddy Power is on £30 with bets outstanding.

I last came on this thread 5/12/2012 and had £30 in my Paddy Power account.
I now have £34.10. So i have managed to stem my losses on betting, but making a profit is not been easy. 9 months showing £4.10 profit, maybe a bank account should be better... Just waiting for a few 'safe' bets to come along, but is there such a thing? Glad i didn't back Chelsea tonight.
Might put my £30 on Tottenham 1/7 tomorrow and make £4.29 doubling my profits !!!
£30 x8= 240 divided by 7= £34.285. The only thing is I don't know anything about Tromso's form.
It's gonna take me years to be able to live off the bookies

Just keep tweaking my bets,if i'm patient i know i can beat the bookies. Was considering putting a lump sum on the Man U Palace game, then just use the returns to bet with, but not putting silly accumulators on. Having a dabble on QPR 4/5 at Yeovil tomorrow.

I've been around a long time and the number of times I've heard that are many yet I've never seen anybody succeeding yet, that's beating the bookie that is:rolleyes: when was that last time you saw a bookie on his uppers, yet I've seen many a gambler that way;)

Bookies aren't on their uppers because thousands of people put speculative bets on day in day out,I aim to have a steady trickle of wins, something they won't notice or worry about, just backing single football bets, which have a 1 in 3 chance of coming up. I have done loads of research and am quite happy to plod on.
Thanks to QPR for beating Yeovil today. Another small step towards the point were my stake's will be the bookies own money.;)

Just don`t risk more than you`ll miss, the bookies always win.:)

Re: Football Betting Mugs Game ?

Stetrovers,
your missing the bigger picture.
If you have a winning account online or if your always winning in the same shops in the same area, they will limit your stake.
I know people who have had there stake limited to a £5iver, the bookies do it to discourage them from betting with them anymore and to go elsewhere.
They don't like winning accounts, and you can guarantee if you where having regular 3 figure wins your allowed stake would be limited.

Don't forget, they aren't bookies any more.
They make far more money of the mugs who play on the FOBS in-shop or the virtual casino/slots online.
Why do you think they have been giving luxury days out to tory and labour mps, lavishing them with constituencies funds, etc.
Because they want the new gambling bill to give them unrestricted numbers of those evil FOB machines in their shops, effectively turning them into no more than casinos.

But don't worry, most of them are registered in Gibraltar so they can limit their tax liabilities.

The only way you can consistently put on big winning bets these days is with betfair or betdaq. They offer superior odds on the exchanges so why anyone would want to bet with the highstreet bookies is beyond me.

The art of traditional bookmaking is well gone; the current crop are a fraud.

Some of my money is parted from me, it's in several banks, making sod all interest. Picking out a few 'bankers' every now and again, will give me a better return than waiting for a 0.02% interest account to mature.;)

But its guaranteed to be there, it certainly ain't when its in a bookies till, there's nothing sure in backing anything at the bookies, that's why they they're in business, can't remember a bookie going bust:rolleyes:

I know people who like to have a flutter, and they say it makes a game of football more interesting if you have money riding on it. And it is your money to do with as you want, but if it`s just a case of making your money earn you money, then there are better ways of doing so in my opinion.

I don't have a 'flutter', I scan the coupon and if there's one game that take's my fancy I will have a little bet on it, or maybe a big bet on it, depending on how confident I feel about the match. Sometime's I will go without a bet if nothing appeals to me.
I also have money earning money away from betting.
I have had 5 consecutive wins since my last loss, wonder if I can get into double figures??

It's not about luck being in, it's about being careful, today i went against my betting instinct's and did a treble, it went down. I fancied Southampton, off a good win at Anfield against Crystal Palace who had lost 4 out of 5 of their Premier League matches so far. That should have been my bet, but i had to stick Man U and Bolton with it, and down it went. Dougie Freedman must be sweating on his job now, not beating Yeovil is not good enough, they nearly lost, equalising in the last minute.
My recent winning's paid for my treble bet, so no real harm done.

I wish you well with your betting, no doubt you`ve looked into it. But here`s some tips for those that maybe haven`t.

I looked into the stats last week but unfortunately can`t find the link, but it went something like - bet £1 on every favourite and in (i think) 1 year you will lose over £1000.

After United's poor performance against Palace last week I didn't want to risk too much on 'em. That's why I did an accumulator.
There are certain teams that will struggle this season, like Palace away from home, they wont win many on their travels.
Geoff Boycott style betting could be the way. If in doubt don't have a bet. Steady does it, i'm in no rush.
Liverpool made my money that i lost yesterday.
Everton should do Newcastle tomorrow but I think i'll keep my money in my pocket.

I`ve just looked at Liverpools odds 1-5, which must have needed quite a stake to recoup yesterdays losses (5 X whatever you bet yesterday). That`s quite a risk. If Liverpool had lost, what would you have to stake on your next bet just to try and break even.

Backed Liverpool before the game at Corals price 8/11.
1/5 must have been in running price.
Just backed Everton at 1/40 whilst 2-0 up !!!

i had £34.95 in my account so put on £4.95. Won a massive 12 pence. I know it was a bit pointless, but it prove's a point. If you have the fund's you can beat the bookies.
Some punter somewhere could have put £40000 on and won £1000.
Going back to the Liverpool price, it would have fluctuated all the time during the match and at some stage, you would only be able to bet on the draw or Sunderland.
It's all about timing.

That`s OK until the big comeback costs that punter £40,000. Evertons comeback from 4-2 down against Man U springs to mind.

Thank's for everyone's concern's, i do have my gambling under control. One bloke i work with, his son has recently joined the army, stationed at Catterick. Being in the army it's 'hard' spending your wage's, so he regularly put's £30 bet's on football accumulator's. He won £600+ a couple of week's ago. His dad was telling everyone at work. He seemed proud of his lad. If that was my lad, i would be telling him to leave his earning's in the bank. One thing about joining the service's is that you can put a nest egg away for the future. My step daughter is in the army, and while in Afhan, there were lots of lads blowing their money on gambling sites (nothing else to do, and money burning a hole in their pockets). The army tried to stop this by banning gambling sites on the camps internet access, but with new ones popping up all the time they couldn`t keep up. She came home with six months wages + tour bonus, others came home with nothing in the bank.

Received 2 free £5 bets from Paddy Power on my mobile, did an 'obvious' double backing Arsenal and Chelsea, the other £5 which i received in the shop went on Villa to draw with Spurs.
So i am up £7.69 thanks to Paddy Powers generosity.
I've now won a massive £9.69 on Paddy Power free bets LOL

can't believe it, but Paddy Power sent me another 2 FREE £5 BETS.
Went down to the shop on Friday, where another bloke also received the same offer. He threw his away with SILLY 4 FOLD. Whereas I kept it simple, having a Fiver on Arsenal 4/11 at Palace and the other FIVER on Leicester 4/6 at home to Bournemouth.
Those 2 wins have gone into my very appreciative On Line Account.
I also had a little bet on Arsenal on my on line account.
SLOWLY BUT SURELY
