Worst car of all times and why

What do you think was the worst car made and why?

My choice is the Bond Mini
Reasons:
  1. Looks
  2. Only had 3 wheels
  3. Had no reverse (but the front end could be lifted easily if you got into a tight spot!)
  4. Made of plastic (well fibre-glass!)
  5. You had to lift the bonnet on early models and Kick-Start them
  6. 1 cylinder 2 stroke engine sounded like a sewing machine

Not exactly..

..a saturday night girl puller, is it?

MikeWest 20-02-2004 15:18

Sounds like those things they sell on Union Road Ossy

Tealeaf 20-02-2004 16:54

I thought those things came free when you spent more than 2 quid at Ossy

Co-op

Looks to me like summat you would get in the pound shop's.

Mik Dickinson 22-02-2004 21:18

Wonder what one of them would be worth nowadays?

K.S.H 22-02-2004 21:26

Probably a bit more than they cost when new!

I was never much impressed with the old fiat 126, when we were younger we called it the sewing machine on wheels.

Was that the one that had vents on the boot lid? well bonnet really, was rear engine.
Never forget a mate of mine picking me up in his mothers car, he stopped on Hyndburn rd to close the vents so the heater would work better, couldn't stop laughing!
You had to start it by pulling a lever as well, didnt have start on the key!

Not sure about the vents but that car definately did have a rear engine and rear wheel drive. My mate used to have one and I squeezed into the back once, pretty nippy actually and due to the config it slid around corners... he loved it - i exited the thing vowing never to enter again!!

That's a little bit rich, Royski, condemming someone else's driving technique!

Re: Worst car of all times and why

I'd vote the Chrysler 180 as the worst ever car. This was Chrysler/Hillman/Rootes Group's attempt at an "executive" car in the early Seventies. A lousy power-to-weight ratio with a puny engine, it handled like a bath tub in the Bay of Biscay. Performance soon improved, however, as its kerb weight rapidly plummeted due to the premature oxidation of most of its fifth-rate bodywork ( I never knew one which passed its first MOT without lots of welding). It was unreliable (natch), and depreciated faster than an igloo in the Sahara. You've never seen a Chrysler 180? Look carefully in your nearest gutter for a few reddish-brown specks . . .that's as close as you'll get!

The one thing about the 180 was that it was a good source of engines to make your Avenger or Sunbeam go faster.
