"Working Class Hero" comes to mind along with a few derogatory sentiments that reflect you disrespect of other peoples opinions…….of music and what it means to people, you have little knowledge of. :(

I have voted for the Beatles because they are the best band ever.
I like oasis.
Woody has Cashgman say's the Beatles wern't a Rock 'n' Roll band.
My 1st love is good old fashioned Rock'n'Roll.
Elvis is the King of Rock 'n' Roll with Cliff being Our British eqivalant and every bit has good.
People that are constantly slagging Cliff off have nevery really sat and listened.
Have no taste.
Or are closet Fans.
No Woody I'm not a wrinkly with a closed mind.
I Love M&M. I like Oasis,The Verve to name but a few.

Re: Rock n Roll kings

The Sex Pistols rock and roll?
The Beatles rock and roll?

The above are representatives of two totally different musical genres.

Woody, at 16 and a Beatles fan how can you criticise Gayle for being a Cliff Richard fan and not being around in his hey day? That strikes me as somewhat ironic.

Personally there are others I prefer above those you have mentioned. Why limit the selection to those three? What about the Rolling Stones? The Kinks? Manfred Mann?

I do tend to agree with you on one point, that I prefer people who actually play instruments to be classed as musicians rather than vocalists who are precicely that - vocalists, and as for "boy bands" the word "band" is a total misnomer when none of them play a musical instrument. "group" would be more appropriate and yet us old fogies used to call them groups in our day when they did play their own instruments.

Out of those 3 I picked The Beatles and yet my favourite song at the mo is by Oasis. (go figure)

not opinion woody, fact= rock n roll began with white people playing r@b in the mid 50s,the part of it infiltrated by country music was called rockabilly,it all came to be called rock n roll in the 60s. the beatles were classed as a pop band, the rolling stones r@B/ rock n roll, NOT my opinion but as classified in the encyclopedia of popular music, don't get the hump again i'm just saying the way it is.;)

i've been listening to a lot of The Kinks and The Verve lately; both absolutely brilliant.
i read somewhere yesterday that The Kinks' You Really Got Me' was the first heavy metal song - it baffled me at first but listening to other bands around at the time - The Kinks were one of the 'heaviest' bands....the guitar distortion techniques are so ahead of their time.
My favorite track at the mo is Let There Be Love by Oasis, absolutely brilliant - it isnt in the same category as all the other 'brilliance written in 15 mins songs' by oasis such as live forever, wonderwall, dont look back in anger and champagne supernova, as, according to Noel Gallagher - it took him 7 years to write!
The shared vocals on the track are sublime....very Beatles, very beautiful.....sublime. lovin it!

Have to clarify - not a Cliff Richard fan of now! But if I'd have been the right age when he first appeared I know I would have been a fan then! PS - he was even prettier than Elvis at the time.
