I too like the Dave Clark 5 and a group not mentioned as of yet The Kinks (or were they a bit more early 70s?)!

No that's a very good mention LancYorkYankee. The Kinks' best stuff came out before the 60's were out.
Great band.

Surely the Four Pennies should be mentioned here. And I want to put The Searchers and The Fortunes in my list. Anyone go to see The Fortunes in Ossie in November?

A BIT of a Thread Wonder

I was exposed to "60s music" mostly from my older brother. He was born in 1955 as I was 1960. So he was smack-dab in the middle of the Rock and Roll revolution. Oh how my parents hated that "punks on dope music."

My brother would smuggle records in. First album he ever bought was by Cream. I couldn't understand what a Cream was but I LOVED his second album: "Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy" by the Who.

Point of order, Mr C! Cream's first ever public appearance was at the Twisted Wheel, right here in Manchester. They appeared there on July 30th, 1966, to replace Joe Tex who had cancelled. In fact, this was a warm up gig in preparation for their official launch at the Windsor Jazz & Blues Festival.

Nope, sadly not. I've got a book on the history of the Wheel and I read about it in there.

Wynonie , can you check your book and confirm if Ike & Tina Turner ever played there ? and if the Rolling Stones opened for them , probably around early 63 , thanks

The book gives a listing of every artist who ever appeared at the Wheel and I can tell you that the Stones never played there. Ike & Tina Turner appeared there twice - on April 27th and August 17th, 1968. Maybe it happened at one of the other Manchester clubs of the 60's - Heaven & Hell, the Oasis, the Blue Note, the Bodega etc etc?
