The Beautiful South
A very sad day indeed as my favourite band of all time decide to call it a day after 19 years.
Paul Heaton and Dave Rotheray have written some of the finest "pop" songs in the 2 decades;I am gutted that this is the end. In commemoration of this fine band I give you my Top 5 South tracks... 1) Manchester from "Superbi" 2) Worthless Lie from "Miaow" 3) Don't Marry Her from "Blue is the colour" 4) Prettiest Eyes from "Miaow" 5) Perfect 10 from "Quench" Please add your own South faves;I am sure everyone likes at least one! (saw them at King George's on the "Blue is the colour " tour;awesome. ' |
Re: The Beautiful South
Fantastic band, sorry they've split my favourite, though I like most of their tracks
A little time |
Re: The Beautiful South
I liked the Housemartins stuff & the Beautiful South made some very good songs.
They made songs that stick in your mind. They may not be great technically or moan about tax credit system in deepest darket Peru, but songs like that have a special ability to take you to a specific memory in your life, which is what I look for in a good song. |
Re: The Beautiful South
Hate to say it but I thought they'd split a while back it's been so long since we've heard from them.
Perfect 10 A little time Rotterdam |
Re: The Beautiful South

Re: The Beautiful South
You must have missed the last 2 albums Gayle; "Goldiggas,Headnodders and Pholk songs" released 2004 ;an album full of quality cover versions;eg the South's take on "Don't Fear The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult and also a seminal version of the classic S Club 7 track "Don't Stop Movin'" .
Then the fantastic "Superbi " album released last year, full of classic South wit and sarcasm;the song "Manchester" being one of my faves..."and the mood of this whole sodden place is melancholy, like the sun came out to play, shone through the clouds and dropped his lolly." "From Cheetham Hill to Wythenshawe it's rain, Gorton,Salford,Sale pretty much the same. As I'm caught without my jacket once again, The raindrops on my face play a sweet refrain." Pure genius to me ! |

OLD RED EYES IS BACK is my fave but
Sail this ship alone is a close second. Here's one for you, the missus went and bought me carry on up the charts a couple of years ago and left the recipt in the bag, £22 she had paid for it!! I went on to ask her if she didn't notice it was on the expensive side or that it was a U.S. IMPORT!!! She didn't uu know, I did laugh! |
