YouTube - Beady Eye - 'Bring The Light'

This is the new single from the remaining members of Oasis after the departure of Noel Gallagher, under the name 'Beady Eye'.

I know what they've gone for; a fifties rock 'n' roll piano groove, a northern soul beat and a psychadelic break-down. The elements' fusion works to a certain degree but the music as a whole sounds utterly contrived, then the lyrics are rushed and nonsensical. Don't get me wrong, rushed and nonsensical can indeed be inspiring, such as in the best of British punk (or indeed, in early Oasis tunes). However these are just poorly imagined and lacking in any heart or sincerity.

The Oasis tunes written by Gallagher senior only really sounded like Beatles tunes in the minority, despite all of the ill-thought criticism. They were an amalgamation of the best bits of British rock 'n' roll and, to me, better than most of it anyway. They were a band of fans, not artists. Beady Eye on the other hand, sound like desperate copycats of what they deem as cool.

Perhaps I'm being overly critical. Give the tune a listen and see what you think.

Cheers, Jay. I leave no stone unturned in my quest for good music! Here's another band from the same place and the same era. It wasn't all flower power and psychedelia in 'Frisco!

Cool hammond organ instrumental version of an old Spencer Davis hit, accompanied by some great visuals. Mr Gilmartin will like this one!
