I know what you mean about losing the band to the Radio 1 infected masses... the same thing has happened with many of my favourite bands; more recently Kings of Leon. The only difference there is that Elbow now have better tunes than in the early days, and the recognition/hype surrounding the latest work is more than deserved. That can't really be said for KoL.
