So You Lot Like Amy Winehouse?...

...you must be out of your tiny minds!

I'd never thought much of her, but admittedly I'd only heard a couple of her songs, so I thought I'd give her a chance by watching her Glastonbury performance.

As I watched her stumbling through her act, piping away in her flat, weak, toneless voice, I realised that she was far, far worse than even I had imagined.

Obviously, the likes of Aretha, Dusty and Ella leave her standing, but I could name any number of unknown female singers currently toiling away in small clubs who could blow her off stage.

You lot are easily pleased, aren't you?

I cant be doing with the lass, irrespective of her vocal talents, good or bad. She always looks like she needs a good scrub to me.
Did you see her lash out at anyone as this recent News report suggests - Amy Winehouse 'lashes out' at fan

Never really listened to her can't be doing with how she comes across:( To many talented people who don't come across as needy deserve to be listened to before her IMHO!!

Re: So You Lot Like Amy Winehouse?...

I saw it, and she was appalling, but since it's only a few days ago that she was hospitalised with suspected emphysema, I forgive her. Though personally I think it would have been wiser to cancel her gigs this weekend.

She may have been terrible, but she was sporting the biggest beehive in history, which I applaud.:D

I worship the divas you mentioned, and I do rate her right up there with them, and she most certainly can sing live, as can be seen from her appearance at Glastonbury last year.

Hmmm...a bit better, but still a silly little girl playing at being a diva.

She couldn't hold a candle to THIS lady...

Come on you are getting carried away..who said she was as good as the singers mentioned? but she is entertianing and her musical tastes do come from a period in music you people like... I thinks it's a case of some people trying to bring back the greats..get over it .. they are all dead!

jaysay 29-06-2008 10:41

Re: So You Lot Like Amy Winehouse?...

Her stage performance is awful she jumps about like she has ants in her pants, and I agree sh looks like she needs a good scrub, that Tattoos don't help either, don't know why people rave about her, so at the mandella concert she was pathetic

Re: So You Lot Like Amy Winehouse?...

Can I just ask, who is 'you lot'?

Am I part of 'you lot', or am I to be excused because I haven't paid her much attention?

Music is a different thing to all of us, there are many types that I do enjoy and there are others that have me reaching for the off switch on my radio.

If someone enjoys a different type of music to mine, that doesn't automatically mean it isn't music it just means it isn't to my taste.

If however I am to be lumped into the generalisation of 'you lot', am I to take it that this is because I enjoy a wide range of 'good' music or because I obviously wouldn't know a good tune even if I listened at 120 decibels?

:)

Re: So You Lot Like Amy Winehouse?...

By "you lot" I meant the many Accywebbers who rate Winehouse.

If you haven't paid her much attention you've had a lucky escape!

Caught a bit of her on Glastonbury last night, I kept expecting her to fall over being as she couldn't walk in a straight line.

Average musical talent, spotlighted due to poor choices in personal life.I`ll take Kylie any day :-)

Re: So You Lot Like Amy Winehouse?...

She has a very unique voice which on some songs sounds amazing. But I bought her album based on the one song that I knew at the time and thought the rest of the album was absolute rubbish. I wasn't impressed! I listened to it once and gave it away to a friend.

I cant stand the girl and seeing footage of her at Glastenbury stumbling all over the stage and a heavy holding her up.did nothing to make me think otherwise.

Re: So You Lot Like Amy Winehouse?...

Well I Think shes really good, along with andrew loyd webber who also endorsed her by saying she was one of the best singers we have at the moment.
Yes.. I know shes a drug addict and Yes... I agree her Glastonbury performance were really poor and she let herself down behaviour wise but on the whole she is IMO a real good artiste.

I'm with Wynonie on this, she stummbles along on the wave of soul music and does nothing but kill it IMO:mad:

If all publicity is good publicity, she must be doing something right, as this is the fourth thread we've had about her on Accy Web.

That must put her just behind karma.:D

Jaysay, I don't think Pete Doherty and her are an item...she is married to Blake Civil-Fielder(or some such name)...who is currently in Pentonville for being up to no good.

If the tabloids are to be believed, one journo asked the Zutons about their cover version of "Valerie", which, to their credit they handled well.

Bit like Otis and Aretha revisited? RESPECT ;)

I'm with you Wyn !!....but how do you reconcile much of the vitriol hurled at Ms Winehouse in most of our postings with.....

'Feb 2008 saw Amy Winehouse honoured with 5 of the US Recording Academy’s most prestigious awards: Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best New Artist, Song of the Year (Rehab) and Record of the Year (Rehab) at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. This incredible haul makes Amy the first ever British female artist to win 5 Grammys in one night and sees her join Lauryn Hill (1998), Alicia Keys (2001), Norah Jones (2002) and Beyonce (2003) in the elite band of female artists who have won 5 awards in one evening.'...

Someone...Somewhere must really dig her act !.
(Alfred.E..just can't get his head round it!! ).

Keep on Rockin'

Grammys, shmammys...I could name you dozens of female vocalists, currently working both here and in the States who could blow the lot of 'em off stage. Ruby Turner, Connie Lush, Patricia Scott, Shirley Johnson...unfortunately, they don't have the hype and glamorous/interestingly wasted image (delete whichever applicable) to attract attention. The day I let the media dictate to me who I should and shouldn't like is the day I give up on music (as I'm sure both of you would agree!).

To be quite honest Wynonie there are a lot of artistes who are far better than the likes of Winehouse and the like, they just don't get the hype of the major record lables, mores the pity

Thought you might agree, Al and Jaysay...a few more ladies who I've seen recently...Sugar Pie DeSanto, Barbara Lynn, Ruby Andrews...all ladies in their sixties and all of 'em could wipe the floor with Winehouse and her ilk.
