Hymns... out of fashion or eternally good??

I love hymns, the only truly uplifting music! Especially with no instruments, just the voice.

I think that if you look back we have had posters who were of a, shall we say...religious bent.
They did not endear themselves to many on the forum.
Religion is private and it doesn't provide a good subject for a public forum......any more than a discussion of a person's sex life does.
I am saying this most respectfully. I do not wish to put you off posting, but would suggest that perhaps you have a look at what has gone before to give you some flavour of the site.

Got to admit, alarm bells did go off for me also, however I do enjoy, 'for those in peril on the sea'.
Let's allow him/her a moment to reflect on the truth and light that music of all sorts gets most people and to put one type above another would be a sin.
:)

I love some religious music too ... but: "the only truly uplifting music"? I don't be thinkin' so. And one doesn't have to be religious to appreciate them. Here's one of my favs.

I find the following "truly uplifting" ... and, I believe, one doesn't have to be Welsh, or a rugby fan in order to do so:

Oh ... and if you are asking a serious question, I would go with "out of fashion."

I like lots of different music......Pink Floyd to Puccini.
What I listen to depends largely on my mood at the time.

I am not specially religious. I don't attend a church. However, I am fond of singing some hymns - Victorian era hymns . I think this is a throw-back to my upbringing at school and Sunday School.Though I haven't always succeeded, I do try to live my life, and treat others, in what might be called 'Christian principles' I don't think that we should get upset by 'God-botherers' any more than we should get upset about a person's political statements. I urge all on here to be tolerant and accept that we don't all share the same opinions.

Bob, I think most of us do respect forum members right to an opinion....but the recent experiences we have had with religious maniacs is not forgotten.
I am not religious either...I would consider myself spiritual rather than religious.
I do not want religion shoved in my face.
I think that any devotions should be practised privately and in the appropriate place.
Evangelism is not for the forum.

You are of course correct and so long as they in turn are tolerant and don't try to push their religion down our throats, that is how we will be.
It just never happens though, they are always after souls to save can't leave a body alone.

Don't worry, I don't want to save your souls nor will I shove my beliefs down your neck.
