Re: Prendergast
Got back yesterday from a few days in London to find that Rory is off to Blackpool. To say I'm gutted is a bit of an understatement!!! I'm probably going to amaze you all by saying this but I agree with Adam (and that's a first), you only need to compare the games when Rory was injured and those in which he played to see just how important a part of the team he is. I know we can't stand in his way and I don't blame him for taking the chance to play in a higher division but we all knew his days at the club were numbered. Any of you that were at the Fans Forum know that it turned into a character assassination when he wasn't even there to defend himself. Rory is an all-round decent bloke, I wish him nothing but the best wherever he plays his football, their gain is very definitely our loss.

Re: Prendergast
I agree with Stanleybabe 100% - it's a brilliant move for Rory & I really hope it works out for him. Can't help feeling though that if he'd been treated right he would have seen out his contract with us no matter who was interested in signing him.

Re: Prendergast
Most fans will know that I am one of a few that get on well with Rory & speak to him regularly. At the presentation do he told me he thought it was time to move on as he was being stonewalled by a number of factors within the club & was frustrated that he was not allowed to play or even not being used during a game. Rorys commitment to the club has been top level, everyone can have an off game now & again, but in the main his performances have ranked from great to awesum when used. Ok so no player is greater than the club but when players are rated highly from outside the club it makes you wonder what is going on when they are let go so easily. It is one thing not to stand in the way of a player when they want to progress but so do we fans of Accrington Stanley want to see the club progress too. Letting players go of the calibre of Rory & Evil (if he goes too) does not emulate the clubs desire to progress. I don't blame Rory & wish his future works out well & know he will succeed wherever he goes.

Re: Prendergast
All this talk about Rory... what about the other players? We need to support the club and get behind Roberts, Mullin and the others. If Rory wants away then he is no good to Stanley. Lets hope they get a good price for him. There is no room in pro football for sentiment.

Re: Prendergast
Suppose he doesn't do well at pre season training with Blackpoo. He would be back with us then....
What reception will he get back at Stanley given that everyone knows he doesn't want to be here? |
Re: Prendergast
totally agree Kipax. What about the other players, how are they supposed to feel if they loose their place in the team because the Prodigal son returns
|
Re: Prendergast
Let's be fair to the guy! He is only trying to better himself by hopefully being accepted by a higher league club. If this works out - great. If he isn't accepted, then he remains a Stanley player, and will probably be more settled in his own mind to concentrate his efforts on the club. Surely we can't blame the lad for trying to improve himself.
There is an old saying: "You never regret the things you do - only the things you don't do". If Rory comes back, let's all give him an uplifting reception - as we do with all our players. |
Re: Prendergast
I Agree Tannoy Man, He Is A Mint Player, And To Lose Him This Close To The Start Would Not Be Good, But To Be Serious, I Cant See Him Impressing Blackpool That Much 2 Other Left Sided Midfielders, Who Have Been Quite Impressive For The Club, I Would Be Suprised To See Them Sign Him

Re: Prendergast
Rory is a top class conference player and i think he could make the league football grade. Good luck to him if he is snapped up by Blackpool. If he is not and comes back to stanley then he will have my full support. Rory deserves this chance to better himself. It will be a fantastic move for the lad but i really hope he stays with us!

Re: Prendergast
rory will get a good reception if he returns!!! and good luck to him at blackpool but if he doesnt make the grade he will have the same chance of anyone else in the team as the best player always should get the first team spot
|
Re: Prendergast
WHO SAYS HE WILL GET A BAD RECEPTION ..methinks some of you are a bit quick on the buzzer folks... I dont see anyone suggesting he will get a bad reception. Methinks you missunderstand the question or too quick on the buzzer....
If relationships are strained.. arguments.. people not passing to him... Whats it going to be like if he comes back and all the players know he doesnt want to be part of the team and knows he will leave as soon as a league club asks him. and the only reason he is playing for stanley is because a bigger club wont have him.. hows that for team spirit? Its a fair question isnt it? If you can follow it and not bang on about crowd reactions ?:) |
Re: Prendergast
I dont think the team be that botherd that one of their teamates has tried for better things?
Do you not think if given the oppurtunity every stanley player would leave for bigger and better things? |
Re: Prendergast
There never bothered about players that tried to better themselves.. Every single one of them will if they get the chance...
One more time.... How many of them have been falling out wiht the boss and other players who dont pass to them.. try and leave.. fail and end up back..... If you still havent got it then I give up on this one :) |
