Match at Grays

:Banane32::Banane32::Banane32::Banane32::Banane32: :Banane32::Banane32::Banane32::Banane32:

Nice to see the score at half time and that we appear to be playing Grays at their own game. More of the same in the second half please.
Referee a trifle fussy I think and harsh as well, whould have been 2 penalties given (1 for each team to be fair). Great to see the flags and the fans outsinging Grays fans (can't even hear them). Nice touch with the T-shirts at the start. Keep it up during the second half and maybe TM fears in another thread may not come to fruition.

Which fears were those? ;)

Seriously, though, I thought the lads played brilliantly today. Our defence is dodgy, but they did a good job on Grays today.

A good game and a really good advert for the Conference. :D

Brill match, all i heard on sky sports was the ultras, fantastic again !!! but where did them 4 minutes come from at the end of the second half, and since when has 4 minutes been 5 and a half
Mangan brought down a defender, poor tackle, then kicked the ball away, getting a red card
superb performance by stanley though !!!!!!

Well done the lads, and Jags goal was a screamer. Hope that in some way helps Cav and his family at this time.

Re: Match at Grays

What a result!
The Gray Horse went mad at full time. Referees don't seem to know the meaning of commonsense any more, but Andy Mangan did enough to secure the points in the few minutes he was on the field. Thanks to Jaggers for connecting perfectly with his cross - our 2 goals must have rewarded the travelling Stanley fans 10 times over. 3 home games in a row now - top of the league by Christmas!!!!!

Tin Monkey 12-11-2005 13:54

Roberts' turn for the first goal was exceptional. If that had happened in the Premiership they'd have been showing it for years to come.

It was a superb effort by everyone, and no doubt everyone here will remember this for years to come !!! wotta confidence boost this must be for coley and co.

Re: Match at Grays

Yes I have to agree to all the comments, excellent match and an excellent advert for Conference Football by both teams to be fair, though I think Stanley shaded over the 90 even when down to 10 men. What a brilliant goal line clearance by Phil Edwards though near the end to clear what was a certain goal. Over fussy referee, thought he could have used common sense with Andy mangan and given the lad a stern ticking off, there was no way the ball could have been played with their trainer on the field of play. Keep it up and just maybe the fans will come back through the turnstiles again and boost attendances for the second half of the season. Well done to the Ultras, outsung Grays fans for the whole game and could easily be heard and seen throughout.:Banane32: :Banane32: :Banane32:

well done stanley

the better side won . the ref was a joke for both teams .he really did think he was the star
as a grays fan i have no beef about the result at all.
good luck for the rest of the season

the extra minutes of time added were because of the stanley player receiving treatment during the added time.
i hope the physio is ok though he must have hurt him self by the way he was limping across the pitch to get to the fellow;o)

never a sending off either.

Grays fans forum is full of praise for the way the team played and especially the fans commitment. Well worth a look and fair play to them for not being moaning minnies, unlike someother clubs supporters.

I enjoyed the match this afternoon, I thought the atmosphere, the ultras constant singing and drumming all the way through was great. My son sang along with most of the Stanley songs and shouted at the referee, just like he was there with you all...:D

Well done to the team and the ultras for an extra special performance .

Well done lads - brilliant stuff!! Think the ref was performing for the cameras, no way Mango should've been sent off but all the more credit to our lads for hanging in there and winning the 3 points. Just to add to a good day, York got beat at home by Burton & Alty held Exeter to a draw - good news all round!

zayno14 12-11-2005 18:16

Re: Match at Grays

great peformance on and off the pitch, referee again was appaling, sending mangan off for what he did at his tender age can really hit a player hard and have a detrimental effect to him. Hopefully he can overcome it, he looked very very gutted but glad to see craney comforting him, Coley also sent off for something that looked pretty inocuous. Happy to all you guys ultras on the box, fantastic! Even saw steven a few times! Gary Roberts skill was outstanding! And just how did edwards deflect slabber's effort on to the bar, its was unbelievable!! I swear my heart stopped for them few seconds ;) Centre backs looked slightly dodgy but im not complaining, 3 important points with york, exeter and morecambe dropping points, eeeiiieeeiiieeeeiiii ooooooooooooo.............

Massive result today...one more step on the long road back to the football league. Nice to see some complimentary comments from Grays fans, too. What a refreshing change from the usual sour grapes from some of the "big" clubs who can't take defeat from "upstarts" like us!

Well done Stanley. Your guys played well today and took the game to us. It would have been an even better game with a decent ref but I guess he screwed us both at times.

Good advert for Conference football!!!

I'm bound to agree with Wynonie and others. I've spent some time on the Grays website this evening , and they are clearly a very fine bunch of supporters who don't shrink from giving credit where it's due. It's very likely that Grays, with their substantial backing, will follow Stanley into the League in 2006. Let's hope that we can maintain good relations with such a splendid Club.

Re: Match at Grays

I saw Greys at the start of the season & warned they were a very good team despite having just come into the conference. Both my homework plus Lodgy & Coley & Eric having viewed them in action has paid full dividend today. Wow for Gary Roberts who commanded the left wing all through the game & got the accolade from the Sky commentators that he turned in a premiership performance, just hope no prem clubs nick him yet though. Pity the ref played to the cameras & failed to use common sense particularly with Andy & Coley, I fully hope the club will appeal over Andys sending off. Good luck to the Greys, their set up will ensure a top flight result at the end of season & sure our boys will have fulfilled their promise to Pete & family & can build their confidence to ensure our return to league football. Also well done to the travelling fans who never let up singing & inspiring the lads throughout the whole game. More of it at home games too, not just from behind the goals but all round the ground too- if you have got a voice use it & inspire the lads & put the wind up the opposition!

Just wanted to say Well Done to both your team and supporters, as has been said before I think we were both hard done by with the Ref, he was an absolute joke:eek:

You took advantage of situations better than we did and I think the result was a fair one.

Your supporters are a credit to your club and the noise was absloutley fantastic, something that we could take a lesson from:confused: , the flags and noise were great and really boosted your teams moral, must be like having a 12th man.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Brilliant stuff from the Ultra's yesterday - well done lads. A couple of friends from down south came up for the game, to support Stanley as their own team weren't playing, and they remarked at how good the Stanley fans were and how much their own (Football League Championship) team could do with some fans as good as Stanleys.

Thought the ref was just looking to make a name for himself - the Mangan sending off was appalling, a simple talking too would have been enough, and how he missed the two blatant penalties was a joke.

There's loads Rob, Vauxhall Motors, Witton Albion, Hyde.....:p

Watched it on Sky, sounds awesome! We just scored & when an away team score its usually quiet....... the noise was fantastic!

Lots of bitter fans will point to it being like this just since we been Confernce bit its always been like that, even when we were Uni 1

Best fans in the League? Oh hell I!

we've always taken about the same number away from home, from the dark days in the North West Counties, the Unidump and now the conference. If we took 1000 away instead of 100 would the noise be ten times as great or do you think that more people means less effort required?

Re: Match at Grays

This is more like it! A thread longer than 10 posts when we win - AMAZING!!!

Well I cant add much to whats already been said - Roberts had an absolute stormer - the way he skinned that Grays defender for the cross for Mullys goal typified his performance. I felt very proud at 1.45pm yesterday. I couldnt hear one Grays fan - Ultras for the 90... Well done to all that went. Saw a few familiar faces too singing away... And unless it was underneath the Sky TV camera, where was this 'sea of blue' Stimson??? All I saw was 1 flag and that wasnt even on the ground - some cheapskates in a flat behind the ground on their balcony! Craney played bloody well too and Jaggers finish was a beaut. Everyone in the pub agreed it was a great finish. Yes there should have been a couple of pens but as people have said before me, the ref thought he was the star of the game. Absolute bottleless tripe. I must also mention the defence yesterday - they executed the offside trap VERY well and looked very organised - they would have to be against the league leaders - Grays were caught umpteen times.... Finally a great touch by the players with the tshirts at the start... 10 MEN WE ONLY NEED 10 MEN ... IN YOUR OWN BACKYAAAARD :D
WELL DONE ACCY - A GREAT WIN!!!!!!:engsmil:

Re: Match at Grays

During the SKY coverage & whilst we were singing "Red & White Army", it showed Stimson looking into our support....

I could read his mind "Why did I ask today to be flag day"

"Why can't Grays fans be like the Accy lot"

"Looks fun over there...."

& Rob, if we had a thousand away fans it would be awesome, but we'd have to make sure it was a 1000 ultra types

Highlight of yesterday was Robbie Williams after the game with his "up yours" gesture... Reckon that was for the moaners at the IES

Brilliant performance! Everyone, rightly, is praising the lads. Nevertheless, when we play badly Coley & Co get it in the neck (not least of all from me) so they deserve a lot of praise when things pan out right. John Coleman is one helluvah manager IMHO. Some of us believe he has his faults but you just can't argue with a performance like that at Grays and the position in the Conference league. I ain't arguing any more.

Too true, TM. I hope that nobody will take this the wrong way, but he gets to the place that Rory never could - right to the line, and halfway between the penalty box and the goal area. Then a pass back , and of course this achieves two significant objectives - (1) Your teammate can't be offside, and (2) The recipient of that delicious pass can apply maximum force while enjoying the luxury of loads of time to choose where to place the ball.

Rory is the best crosser of the ball that I've ever seen, but Gary gets right in there and does the business. Quite right that he was Sky's Man Of The Match.

big al 13-11-2005 23:36

Re: Match at Grays

Andy Mangans sending off was apparently for dissent for kicking the ball away despite the game being stopped while a player was down & being treated. As stated on Sky a case of the ref getting his 15mins of fame & not justified. I have put it to the club & hope others will push too for JC to appeal against Andys red card. If it can be done in the Premiership it can be done in the Conf! Comments in favour to JC at IES, Livingstone Rd etc you know the rest!!!http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/i...ons/icon14.gif

The Times' match report talks of the ref making a hash of his significant decisions and 'bizzarely' dismissing Andy.

There's a link to it from the official site match report page, together with a report from Sunday's Observer and some good pics, including the Ultras, from Gav at Grays.

Hang about, when Andy was dismissed, the referee did not show a yellow card, or so I thought. It looked like a straight red to me, anyhow, it will only be one game, so maybe Brown will get a full 90 instead of the 60 he has been having recently. BTW the singing from the Ultras was brilliant under the roof.
