We are TOP of the League

:Banane32::Banane47::Banane32::Banane47::Banane32: :Banane47::engsmil:

Well done tonight on a fantastic game in difficult conditions. The team looked hungry for success, and if we can continue this theme until the end of the season, there is no reason to fear any other team and we should get the promotion we all long for. I will not single out any member of the team, they all played there part, and to keep a clean sheet as well. I know I have spoken out against various squad members and the management, but the way we are playing at the moment they are all playing there part and King Coley has got things back on track. Keep it up and keep the faith. Onwards and Upwards is the only way to go.

:wave8:

PS a decent crowd as well (1506) - maybe this should be a regular occurrence.

Match report is now on the official site. :)

I'd like to mention one player who turned in an excellent performance tonight and that is Michael Welch. He seems to be coming on leaps and bounds. His reading of danger tonight was first class.

Thought Rommy was different class when he came on, only wish he could get a starting place. Probably wont be long untill he is snapped up by a so called bigger fish. On stanley On!!!!!!!!

Who needs a roof.....lets set up a campaign & move back to Peel Park!!!!!!

zayno14 19-11-2005 07:53

Re: We are TOP of the League

Rommy had a good game, he did everything but score! Hit the bar with a fantastic half volley, put one just wide and made the keep pull off a save from his lob! Everybody did what they had to, great team performance and another priceless 3 points....

Top of the league....

Re: We are TOP of the League

Well done Stanley on getting to the top (if only for 24 hours) BUT a gate of 1500 must give Eric cause for concern. The game was well publicised on local radio and no doubt in the press. With no other games in the area surely you should have been looking towards 2000?

Anyway well done......keeping the top or there abouts warm until later in the season, when the real 'Pride of Lancashire' take over!

:Banane32: :Banane32: :Banane32: :Banane32: :Banane32: :Banane32:

shakermaker 19-11-2005 10:03

Re: We are TOP of the League

you need to remember that 99% of the gate last night was in Stanley colours - there was no away support whatsoever so a 1500 gate aint too bad!

Christies Child 19-11-2005 10:16

Re: We are TOP of the League

True.....BUT in your promotion year gates were better than now.

Not having a go at a good club and generally good support, but as I've said must be giving Eric concern about when you join us as we both get promoted this season.

Someone 19-11-2005 10:26

Re: We are TOP of the League

The only person not happy with the gate is a morecambe fan. You have not come here to congratulate us or you would have done that and left. Time and time again the club tells us the budget is less that one thousand heads per game. So last night was a pay day. Friday night football does work. It would be two thousand with a decent away following.

Morecambe fan. On your bike son. No one is biting.

shakermaker 19-11-2005 10:27

Re: We are TOP of the League

nah i think Eric will be quite pleased to be able to turn out 1500 Stanley fans on a bloody freezing friday night; just imagine what the gates are going to be in the blazing April sun on a Saturday aft as we soar to the top of the league to capture the conference title!!

You won't be challenging us by signing the likes of Ged Brannan. He was a good player but his sell-by date expired some time ago. Nor with cheats like Kempson in your team - another who wasn't good enough for us but you find satisfactory. Sort of a pattern emerging here, eh? If only you'd given Coley the manager's job when you could have all those years ago? Your huge loss was our terrific gain! Not heard much from Morecambe Red-Faced - where is he?

zayno14 19-11-2005 11:12

and last night was unbelievably our 4th clean sheet in the league from 17! Still we find ourselves top of the league which says wonders for our attack :)

Re: We are TOP of the League

If we continue in this rich vein of form the gates will soon start to rise. Watching Boco was a revelation and crowds will flock just to see him when the word gets around. The problem will be keeping him as he is surely bound for the upper echelons of the football league. When he came on I wondered whether he was any good at ice skating. But not only did he show magical instant control of the ball, he also competed for the ball very well against their big defenders who were mesmerised by his pace and power. What a signing!

Agreed, and he outjumped and outpaced them everytime. It was just a shame that he couldn't have capped his performance with a goal. :D

I have n't seen much of him, the games i've been too he's been an unused or just about used sub. If he is as good as everybody says, why is he not in the team from the start? And before you say anything no I would not drop Craney for him, cos I would make Craney my captain.

I am here in sunny Morecambe !!

Would be disappointed only beating an ale-house team like Forest Green 2-0.

I guarantee you 1,500 is not enough to pay the wages !! Anything under 2,000 means Directors having to make up the difference, thats why Eric will be worried.

He hasn't been able to get a start because the team has been doing really well. With David Brown's unfortunate injury he finally got a decent chance and was very impressive. If he can sustain that level of performance for a full 90 minutes it will be a mouth-watering prospect, considering the way he got on the end of Mullin's flicks to burst through on goal and bring out the best in their keeper. But he is also very much aware of what is going on around him and delivers good ball to his colleagues. One moment when he cut in from the right and took out their defender with a feint was sublime - if you blinked you would have missed it.
I think he and Gary Roberts together are fantastic, but to single them out is wrong. The whole team played with such intensity yesterday - you could even see it in the pre-match warm-up. The fitness levels have moved up another gear or two recently - I think the workrate is phenominal.

you are missing the points.

Last season you were about 12 points above us after 6 games but its a marathon and we finished well above you. No prizes ever handed out after 17 games !!

Accrington do not have the support to sustain league football. 1,500 for a team needing a win to go top is pathetic. Everyone there is too busy supporting the Clarets or T'Rovers.:p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p

It may have been the case last season but we are different this season..Everything seems perfect this could be our year honestly. Players seem fitter whereas last season we used to get tired in the last 15/20 minutes allows teams back into games, whereas we have shut them out this year. On the other hand you signing Ged Brannan shows you don't have them team, no disrespect to Ged he is a top guy but can't cut it anymore at this level in my opinion. Whereas a team with real ambitions would be signing international class like Boco :p or Youngsters with bags of potential like Smyth who has played in the Liverpool first team. Although you may have narrowly beat us this year albeit us playing almost 90 minutes with 10 men, i think we will finish above you this year :) ASFC- Pride OF Lancashire :rose8:

well we have an academy which turns out young players who are now being recognised by England(4 in the last squad + Kempson on standby). We needed someone like Brannan to add experience to the midfield. The scoreline may have looked close at 3-2 but the referee gave Accy 2 goals, I was standing right behind John Coleman and even he didnt know why the penalty was given.

Possibly because I am an accountant.

Obvious even if your gates were averaging 1,500 (which they arn't) then this wouldnt be enough to cover the wages.

any idea how many shirts, photo's etc we sell worldwide? any idea how much we charge for on the day match sponsorship? or to watch from from our various lounges, or how many weekly lottery tickets we sell which pay out a jackpot of £1000 EVERY week as well as various other prizes and commisssion. Do the maths Mr Accountant. Not everything is dependant on the gate. ASFC is run very well off the field and could teach many other clubs a thing or three about the business side of things. And also most weeks none of us believe the official attendance any way.

if Morecambe insist on living on past glories then here goes Stanleys honours. When were you ever in the top flight eh? okay it might have been over 100 years ago when were but argument is argument. First team to play under floodlights (well one of two), first team ever to top the inaugral top flight of WORLD FOOTBALL (alphabetical order after first game), first team to own a heated stand (directors box in a stand that ultimately led to our demise). So. just hold on a cockle-picking moment before you harp on about national cups. What about the INTERNATIONAL (as in between teams from different countries) Anglo-Carribean trophy we won in 1995.

Pride of Lancashire? You ain't even the pride of Morecambe

We've been in your shadow for a while as we worked our way up the pyramid using your club as our yardstick. Now that we have equalled your status you feel the need to big youselves up on our forum. I sincerely hope that if we miss promotion this year then you go up 'cos I'm sick of the sight and sound of you. Only good thing to come out of Morecambe was John Coleman.

as you were probably tucked up watching Man Ure or following the Clarets due to yet another early exit from a cup ,you wouldnt know how well we played against a much stronger Bradford side than they put out last year.

If we play like that the rest of the season we will win it , never mind about play-offs.

I wouldn't watch such drivel - I am Stanley through & through and have been for many a year - going back to the days of the Lancashire Combination so do not come on our forum posting crap about me especially when you know nothing about having a team with a fine tradition like Stanley has. Crawl back under your stone you moron!!!!!!

Tradition isnt part of a Sunday league pub team impersonators. :D

They need a dictionary to know the meaning. They are just jealous of ASFC history and standing. :D

If we are talking about tradition Accrington Stanley was formed in 1968 I believe.
It is all bullpoo about the present club being an ex-league club.

The club which went bankrupt in 1962 and couldnt fulfill its fixtures were founding members of the football league.

So on that basis how does that work with the Milton Keens Dons then or Aidrie United up here? The name lives on thats all that matters and I for one am extremely proud. I work with people who reconise the old team and make no distinction between the two. Maybe oneday you will see why!!!

Ask Jack Barrett if it isn't the same club, or anyone else who want to Peel Park to watch one of the most famous names in Football

Seriously though Mr Red, you love us don't you!

I actually quite like Accrington Stanley and was pulling for them in the Final against Barrow at Christie Park.

Friendly banter makes it more interesting.

.
Only about 150 from York

I would think Southport took more to Accrington yesterday than York brought to Morecambe.

Our average is nearly 400 a game more than Accrington which is a far better indication.

york brought 800 to stanley..Must only turn up to big games between play off contenders :)

Morecambe do not have any other decent club for miles which must make a difference to their attendances - and lets face it there's nowt else to do in Morecambe and thats in the summer not on a bleak winters afternoon

Probably only brought 150 because they knew they were going home from the Fortress with nothing. They fancied their chances at the Crown.

I would have thought 1,600 was disappointing for "an ex league club" when you see Exeter averaging over 4,000 and Hereford nearly 3,000.

I seem to remember no Accy fans sneaking out early - not when Morcambe were constantly kicking for touch for the last 10 minutes while our depleted squad put them under the cosh.

now i know you just fishing....

We watched your home end empty & sang you out of the ground despite losing! As we have done this season as Burton, Cambridge, Scarboro, Grays, Alty, there was only us the press & the stewards in the "fortress"

I know you don't actually believe what you are saying & 150 from York, yeah whatever!

dont forget Accy v Southport is really a localish derby. 1,600 is very poor for an "ex-league team" at the top of the league.

And york coming to Accy is much nearer for their fans than coming to the fortress. I think that when Southport come for their punishment on New Years bank holiday there will be around 3,000.

And 150 York fans would be about right yesterday. Like you they do like big flags to hide the empty spaces !!
