split in support
has anybody noticed the difference between the old supporters and the new supporters.....they have all just jumped on the band wagon!:p

Re: split in support
How 'new' is new?
Fair do's, I've only followed Stanley for a couple of years (instead of my Championship League home town). I've put a lot of thought into this - and it will be difficult when Accrington rise through the ranks and play Wolverhampton Wanderers. I'll be with the 'Reds'.:D |
Re: split in support
You cant blame 10 year old kids for ot being there in '68..;)

Re: split in support
As an "old" supporter (since 1972), I say the more so-called "bandwagon jumpers" the better. Or would you prefer to just keep it a cosy little club with the "faithful 300" who were watching 20 years ago?

I think you will find this thread is nothing more than a TROLL looking for trouble :)

Re: split in support
It's necessary for the club to pick up new supporters and I hope they stay with the club for life. Over the last 6 or so years it's been easy to be a Stanley supporter, as we've all been supporting a successful club.
When the 'meaner times' roll around again, we'll need all the support we can get to make sure we don't go backwards. The more the merrier I say. :D |
Re: split in support
I jumped on the bandwagon in March last year, and have no intention of jumping off just yet, if only to annoy the trolls.:D

I think that I qualify as a young (ish) man so am I a bandwaggoner? First match 23 years ago in the halcyonic days of Gerry Keenan, Frank O'Kane, Steve Bramwell (from the fish stall) etc. It's not the same now that we don't win the Floodlit League Cup every year, so I might stop going. |
Re: split in support
bandwaggoners flag...... just has to be :)

Re: split in support
Perhaps there could be some segregation in the ground for new supporters. They could perhaps be forced to stand behind the goals for the first couple of seasons, and then allowed to move to the long-side terracing after that ??

How many seasons? I've been behind the goal for one and a bit seasons and my feet are aching. |
Re: split in support
Does time behind the goals at Peel Park count ?
:rose8: Play Up Stanley - Stanley Play Up :rose8: |
Re: split in support
Dont get bitten guys dont you know its half term :p

Re: split in support
I know what your saying (if you are for real) i posted something similar myself here and got a proper bashin in the replies, and only right! over the years I've always looked out for the Stan results even when "daahn saaff" they were hard to find. I have been to a few games when Accy were at peel park, does this make me a fan? I don't think so. Accy will of course be my second team but to expect a kid or teen in say the 70's to actively support Stanley when footy was on BBC ITV and clubs like Liverpool,Man utd,Rovers and Burnley are just a bus/train ride away is just not realistic.
Everyone is a "new supporter" of any club at some time, and definitley the more the merrier..and Bazf.. are you saying your 1st allegiance is to Accy Stanley? |
Re: split in support
is it me or does this site sometimes post twice???

Re: split in support
Once the off-comers have done their two seasons behind the goal, maybe there could be a little exam/ceremony where they're tested to see if they know all the correct phrases like "they should pay me to watch this!", "Get 'im off, Coleman!" and "I remember when 'aggis were knockin' 'em in for fun!" before being handed their flat cap and tartan pattern thermos flask and being escorted to the stands or cowshed.

Also on the subject of so called Band wagon jumpers/newbies to Accrington i guess most will be fans that used to go and have started going again or have maybe thought about going but never gone and i`m only guessing here but i dont see many people from further afield being attracted to Stanley just because we are back in the league, but if they are then i think it can be only a good thing for the club, as its money in whichever way it comes into the club is whats needed to secure its future, so we should welcome fans both old and new especially the younger ones. As a near full time home supporter and occasional away supporter for only 1.5 seasons i may not yet qualify as a proper fan but i am a fan, i love the club and will continue for as long as i can to actively follow and support them, i never intend when i first went to watch them of becoming a full time supporter, my son asked me if i would take him to a game and we`ve both been going ever since, he`s also adopted Stanley as his first team to, so it just goes to show that not all the young ones want to follow the glory teams. |
Re: split in support
isn't it funny the difference between the message board and the ground on match days? On this message board people feel it necassary to brand people as 'band wagon jumpers', 'newbies', 'flat cappers' etc, it comes across like we don't want new fans intruding on us!!!! Which is completely different than on the terraces on match days, where everyone is welcome as long as their shouting for stanley!!!! I say the more fans the merrier the party will be!!!

Gracias, Henry. All strictly tongue-in-cheek, of course. As Sparkie says, the more fans the merrier.

It may have sounded that i just jumped from a big club to a small club in a matter of weeks, but i stopped following my other club many years ago and have never supported or watched anyone else inbetween apart from England of course, it wasnt untill i went to watch Stanley that my faith in football was restored, thats why i have continued to go and watch them, i stumbled across Stanley more by accident than intention but i am very glad that i did. I know you werent having a dig and i know that i dont have to justify myself going to watch Stanley, but thought i would try and answer your question the best i could. |
