Gary Roberts
The word on the streets today is that Gary Roberts is on his way to Yeovil:eek: despite this being denied by stanley in the observer last friday due to the 20,000 offer not being enough, anybody know any different

Re: Gary Roberts
Radio Lancashire 13.30. Acc Stanley are considering a new offer for Gary from Yovil Town. According to Eric Whalley he has refused to sign a new deal with Stanley, and Eric feels Gary doe'snt want to play for us. Read into that what you may.

Gray, when you look over the fence and see that the grass is greener over the other side beware that once you’ve clamed over the fence perspective changes and quite often it looks greener where you’ve alighted from. <O:p One thing of note is the quote at the end of the report alleged to be by Eric <O:p "He's a good player Gary but we won't miss him all that much. I'm sure we can find a suitable replacement”. <O:p <O:p If I was in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comGary's</ST1:p</st1:City> boots and had the club at heart I would be gutted by this statement. If he doesn’t have the club at heart, then the sooner the better….<O:p |
Re: Gary Roberts
We let a better winger than him go when he came to the club, so he shouldn't be too difficult to replace.

Re: Gary Roberts
I think ossy is right no one is bigger than the club. Every year thousands of players get released by their respective clubs so finding a winger would be no problem, in fact we already have. Sean Doherty.
However I spoke to gary while on holiday in cyprus last week and he seemed really buzzing about the new season. He was a little worried that he wouldn't make his returning weight for training and was concerned about us signing sean who can play in his position but he was thrilled ian craney had signed a new contract and very upbeat about everything else, he kept saying he was really looking forward to proving himself at league 2 level. I don't really know what to read into all this its all a bit strange, but i stand by my comment above that nobody is bigger than the club, so if gary wants to go and the deal is right for the club then I wish him well. Another thing that I don't understand is why Yeovil who reportedly have very little money, and just bearly by the skin of their teeth stayed in league one last year. If I was gary I'd want to go somewhere a bit more progressive than that. |
Re: Gary Roberts
If Gary wants to go then obviously he goes now whilst he is a saleable asset.
IMHO he will be going nowhere near Yeovil as they can't afford him. Many wanted him last year not least Chester. Put him up for auction and let the highest bidder have him. I don't where this loyalty crap comes from though. Surely if a rival company offered you 20% extra to do the same job for them you would take it wouldn't you? He is a professional trying to earn as high a wage as possible. You would obviously want to enjoy your football, and like the area where you live, and preferably play for a team that can win things. But dollar is king I am afraid. If its true then good luck Gary, thank you for the memories and we will wave as we go past you. |
Re: Gary Roberts

Re: Gary Roberts
Jesus this is the worst news possible at this stage of the new season. However, if he does not want to play for Stanley then thanks and goodbye. No its not the worst news, we haven't signed a keeper yet, thats worse, and the news on the Charlton front has gone quiet.

Re: Gary Roberts
give coley a chance to work out the details he's only been back off holiday since this morning!!!

Re: Gary Roberts
If Gary doesn't want to play for us then he can go...Noone is bigger than the club...If he doesn't take into consideration what the club has done for the lad then that's fine he can go...To me leaving us now is ungrateful and the only factor he is thinking of is money...Let's just get as much as we can and hope this Doherty is a hit...
Thanks for a good season Gary but i have lost respect for you to leave here for money..We'll be better than Yeovil soon and then you'll be kicking yourself.. |
Re: Gary Roberts
What is it with left-wingers at this club eh?!
Nah in all seriousness I hope Gary does stay; we all know he should deserve a chance at a much higher level but to leave Accrington Stanley now would be a foolish move. If worst comes to worst, don't fret - remember when we lost Rory; a lot of people were flapping around about losing such a talented player....hey presto we got a player 10 times as talented & committed in Gary Roberts...I'm sure Coley can work his magic once more. |
Re: Gary Roberts
Erics comments on Radio Lancs were far from a point of view of Gary staying. Either Gary or his "agent" have put the squeeze on the club with an offer on the table but I cannot see how a club like Yeovil would bea progressive move. He is still bound to another years contract at Stanley & maybe the approach from Yeovil could be illegal in not obtaining permission from us first. Eric sounded pretty miffed though on the radio so something has gone on.
