The pitch.........
It's smaller.. anyone else notice? The gap between the wall in front of main stand and pitch is noticably wider and as such the pitch must be smaller..
How interesting is that ? :) |
Re: The pitch.........
The Main Stand has been moved back a couple of inch to comply with The Fa standards :)

Re: The pitch.........
I see the dip is still there in the pitch, thought they would have levelled that out a bit, really noticable from the Clayton end

Re: The pitch.........
surprising really, as I thought nobody could get Eric to give an inch

Re: The pitch.........
This is something I have always had a bee in my bonnet about.
Surely all pitches should be the same size, wider/ longer pitches can give players advantages/disadvantages. I would have thought the FA would have a ruling on this but obviously not!:) |
Re: The pitch.........
They do have a ruling. They have to be within certain parameters, with specific features (penalty spot, goals etc) at precise points. The differences are not that great, IIRC, and get more stringent as you progress through the leagues.

Re: The pitch.........
The length of a pitch must be between 100 yards (90m) and 130 yards (120m) and the width not less than 50 yards (45m) and not more than 100 yards (90m).
Wigan’s pitch dimensions are 110 x 60, Newcastle 105 x 68, Liverpool 110 x 75, Portsmouth 105 x 66, Aston Villa 105 x 69, Norwich 114yds x 74yds, Real Madrid 106yds x 70yds. There is quite a difference the longest being 114yds and the shortest 105yds. The widest being 75yds and the narrowest only 60yds. For International matches the length must be between 100yds and 110yds and the width between 64yds and 75yds. |
Re: The pitch.........
So you could in theory have a square pitch.

Re: The pitch.........
Has anyone else noticed that on a legal pitch there are 8 obstructions?
The line marking out the perimeter of the pitch is part of the playing area yet the four corner posts are on the line as are the four goal posts. Yes, I know it has been like that since goal posts took precedent over two coats but that doesn’t make it right, does it? <O:p How many goals have been scored when the ball hits the post and bounces in, when if the posts had been those few inches back the ball would not have bounced into the goals. <O:p Also is the line marking out the penalty area part of the area? |
Re: The pitch.........
I must be thicker than I thought I was. I never knew they where different sizes even when they appear to be bigger or smaller at other grounds I just put it down to old age, failing eye sight and the lighting....
