Re: Old Picture Project

Macca was Stewart Anderson the blonde right winger that got his face smashed up in one of the home games by the oppositions left back maliciously elbowing him in the face?

He was a corking player and after that he never played for us again. Mind you I think it was a double fractured cheekbone, concussion, and I'm not sure if it broke his jaw too, also at one point they thought he was in danger of losing his eye, oh and to top it off he nearly died on the pitch coz he swallowed his tongue.

Quite honestly the most horrific thing I have ever seen in football, including Jonny Smiths broken nose at Droylsden!!!!

Oh and Rob is definately the one in the white shirt. Watching him one was of the major things that made me want to be a goalie, I was gutted when he went.

Stuart Anderson was an ex-Colne Dynamo lad. The player your are thinking of was Darren Schofield, the ex-Droylsden striker. He was elbowed right in front of the stand in a game against Bradford Park Avenue. He never played for us again.

Thanks TM, I've been trying to work it out since I saw a photo of him in an old programme a few weeks ago, but there was no caption under it.

Darren Thornton actually

Re: Old Picture Project

the guy who did him was called Morris and you're right it was Bradfrod.

About three seasons later we played Farsley at home and they had a big black guy on the bench called Morris. As all these clubs are in a similar area it was fair game to assume that the guy on the bench was the same thug who did Thornton in. He got a 60 minute chant of "Morris-Scum, Morris-Scum". When he finally came on he was loudly booed by most of the ground every time he touched the ball. The guy had a shocker and was subbed himself after about 10 minutes.

Talking to Darren in the bar after the game he thanked us for our efforts on his behalf but went on to explain that it wasn't the same guy.

To that guy I apologise......probably ruined his career with that one.

Re: Old Picture Project

It was Thornton yes. We did have a Scofield from Droylsden who looked a lot like him, hence my mistake.

I have now finished scanning all the photos I was given, it took a lot longer than expected. They have now been uploaded and have put in about 1/3 of the decriptions that were written on backs of each photo. I will hopefully have the rest of descriptions done by Wednesday night....So please keep popping back for a look at the descriptions...Please let me know if you spot any mistakes as the writing is quite difficult to read on some of the photos.

You will find them at the link below

Fantastic pictures - great memories of great and not so great past players and some reminders of the horrendous grounds we had to endure in the past. Some of them make the FES look like Wembley in comparison.

There's so many players who I can recall, but also quite a lot whose names I can't quite spit off the end of my tongue. The facial hair on some of the photos are absolute classics.

Thanks for your efforts!!

Hi all

I have put in the descriptions for all the photos that had them written on the backs...So some of those tip of the tongue names might just be there....

:D
