New Strip For Next Season

 any one herd if this is true ?

Re: New Strip For Next Season

Lee, in the club shop, told my mate that there wouldn't be a change of shirt for next season. He told him that at the Macclesfield game.

Whether that's true or not is another matter, but you would hope it's true if someone at the club has said it.

Hmmmmm..... having said that, I notice the price of shirts on the official site are now £20. That's half price isn't it?

Re: New Strip For Next Season

I reckon its negative economy changing the shirt every year.

If you guaranteed the same shirt for two years the average guy would buy the home and away shirt over the course of the two years and possibly extra shirt for the missus and kids. As it stands I sometimes buy a shirt, and never buy one for the missus or kids as I cant afford to (unless part of christmas etc). Again it sometimes comes down to raising the profile and ensuring the maximum number of people have them and wear them.

I am expecting a new strip. Now the season has finished, the sacred one was actually worn to footy training last night instead of hanging reverantly on a padded hanger in the wardrobe and only bought out for wear on Accy match days OR very special social occassions around the Hawkes Bay.Even Johnathon Gould( anyone remember him-exCeltic and son of Bobby?) commented to me lastnight on what a neat strip it was.

You would think if a new shirt is coming out then they would be shifting the old shirts for a lot less than £30 ?

Nope, that's the reserves kit, seeing as it wasn't a proper first team game. You spesk of the one with Nields on the front.

I assumed they meant that they'd spoken to someone at the game who had told them that a new kit was on the way. It was pretty obvious that Nield's kit wasn't new.

Re: New Strip For Next Season

its no excuse but practically every team has new kit every season. We dont have to follow the trend but its expected these days that you do. I've already said that I reckon more shirts would be sold by keeping the same one for two years, I reckon you would buy one of each shirt for yourself and probably just one for the kiddies and missus. But as it is a gamble and the club can guarantee selling 500 shirts every season then they would carry on doing that. You've also got to realise taht we sell possibly as much stuff outside of Lancashire than we do within Lancashire. Until such time as the town of Accrington wakes up and realises that they too must support the club and become the majority then market forces will continue to dictate commercial interests. Would we sell more shirts if they were only £30? We would have to sell a third more shirts to make up the shortfall and I dont think we would do that. I think that as time moves on and the club catch up with the rest of the football league in terms of facilities, squad and set-up we may see a move to reduce costs across the board but until then it is unfortunate that they have to eke as much profit out of things as possible to fund these catch-ups.

We have all joined in with having a go at the club for not spending anything but this close season should see over three quarters of a million pound invested into the ground (pitch six figures + Whinney Hill Stand £500k + Clayton End Roof £200k).

We should start to see the future being mapped out over the next twelve months and this is the start of exciting times for us. We all need to back these moves with as much as we possibly can. Despite not having a season ticket for the past four years and despite being unemployed for the last few weeks I have ordered one this time even though I may not get full value from it. Every ticket ordered is a guaranteed earner for the club that they can start to budget from so this would be a good starting point for everybody, also the Gold Bond Draw - a pound a week straight from your bank account? You'll never miss it. If you dont want to be an agent then just enter it anyway, send me a PM and we can put the OSC down as the agent and then any agent winnings can go straight back to the club! (and I'll beat Loweiy).

Re: New Strip For Next Season

While I accept that as loyal supporters we should do what we can for the club, it's about time some of this loyalty is paid back.
12 years with a different shirt every season, the core fans ploughing our hard earned cash into the club year after year - surely we deserve some value for money somewhere along the line and if not (probably not), the club should be attempting to grab in the families of Accy with family shirt deals or something.
'Doing everything we can for the club' is a great idea in theory, but in reality the club must take into account that Accy is not the most affluent area in the world and shouldn't be fleecing it's loyal supporters.

I think you might find it's quite the opposite Macca, the more the clubs provide better squad, facilities etc the more they squeeze the money out of you :)

Somebody has to pay for it all and the most gullible contributor of all is the loyal fans. :(

Well if I recall right ,my Stanley shirt was approx $120 plus postage. My eldest son preferred a Chelsea shirt @ $90.Had Stanleys been at the same price,I would've got him one.(Sometimes you just have to give these kids guidence).I realise the volumes that Chelsea sell would reduce production costs, but its all about getting the 'face' out and about. A $ 30 difference seams excessive.

Sorry mate, but having been to the ground recently, the groundsman hopping mad! Apparently all they have done is patch up the bare parts of the pitch and that does not cost six figures. Whinney Hill Stand just the same, would have thought work would have started if they were supposed to spend half a mill and roo (oh yea where is the 'f').

I reckon they are spending it on the Crown after winning the lease.

the new stand will have to begin work this season to be done in time for May 2009, so I would have expected to have seen artists impressions at the very least by now.

the pitch, no wonder he's mad. It was put around that six figures were to be spent but evidently not.

the roof, sick of it now. Umbrellas are on sale.

TBH, the lack of information about things that we deem important is very disheartening, the wrong information fed to the media is disillusioning. I still say that this season is gonna be pivotal in shaping the whole future of ASFC, it's OSC, and the ground plans. I just would have expected it to be happening by now in some way shape or form.

The dwindling fan base has to start growing back and developing in the next 18 months, and this can only be done by way of positive vibes constantly coming from the FES. We need to start seeing plans, we need to start seeing starting dates pencilled in and adhered to. The squad seems to be coming along magnificently, and the Crown acquisition is a positive one, I think the OSC is starting to take shape. We just need the Google Page Ranking department to start pulling with us.

It is still gonna be a successful season in many ways.

I agree with most things Macca has said the fan base is beginning to show signs of recovery, although what slightly disheartened me on the float round Accrington on Saturday was the lack of townsfolk wearing the Red & White I know there is so called missed generations but I do not live in Accrington and I only started going on last season but what struck me straight away was the style of football that Stanley play, the enthusiasm of the players, the passion of the Stanley supporters it is fantasic and something to be really proud of one game and I was bitten by the Stanley bug. I have now somewhere I can take my lads meet up with friends have a few beers and watch Stanley how much better can it get? I don't see myself as a shopper, but must have been in the club shop a good few times last year, with readies, and came away shaking my head cos they had a load of tacky crap.

If the club, the OSC and this website could identify one or two " most wanted " items it's a win-win situation.

In terms of identifying more with the club I've outsourced a Kenny Arthur bracelet; Red, Black & Yellow.
Anybody spotting me wearing it can say, "You're Oggy, and I insist on buying you a pint".

Official launch delayed to enavble a full scale media launch. see fishy.

all well and good but now we may start getting closer to the start of last season and that would be a disaster (night before first game anybody?) or at least potentially missing the sale for people going on their summer holidays.

A bigger launch is all well and good but how much bigger can it be than the two local papers and the website?

I await the new launch date

Well, they do say "early July" on the fishy site, so it's only being delayed by a couple of weeks. Whenever it is, I hope it's on a Saturday. 11.00am on a Tuesday morning was never likely to bring a flood of potential punters into the store. As for the "mega launch", let's see what Lew comes up with!

Re: New Strip For Next Season

Ah the new kit scenario.

When I came into the club I saw a potential to bring pride back into the town, hardly any kids in alley ways kicking footballs with a stanley kit on. I wanted to launch as early as the kit came in, put accrington stanley back on its townspeoples doorsteps. we agreed a date and looked to incorporate as much media coverage as our counterparts blackburn and burnley. If however 10 people turned up to buy one. Then for me thats ten people we would not have had. Gives me scope to push on for next year and aim for 40 or 50 say.

However the problem arose as a consultation, I believe that last year was a nightmare because we didn't have enough stock. From my last job, the idea of creating a mega event in town was to initially drive sales on day one, creating pride and loyalty within the supporters. But without guarantees of quantity it becomes a non starter.

We have to drive any launch through interest, the idea of a free preorder gives us feedback for the club for day one sales, plus it gives us a better database for us to communicate with you on these issues.

So I then took the descision to wait, until preorders are fulfilled.

maccawozzagod 28-06-2007 16:56

Re: New Strip For Next Season

...and rightly so. Last season was a nightmare with it being only hours away from the first game and not enough shirts. Every season we should be aiming to have those shirts available BEFORE people start to go on holiday.

LewCarroll 28-06-2007 17:04

Re: New Strip For Next Season

Yep I agree, again tho, since I started the campaign for a free preorder we are starting to sell out the first batch. My problem is that die hard fans like people on the message boards may have the apathy that it will be alright and just wander in.

I really want to succeed on this and so urge anyone who wants the new shirt ( which i may preview early next week. ) to whop a preorder down. This ain't advertising I just want people who don't already know they have a famous club on their doorstep to wake up and support us.

Why can't there be a preview now, or even a picture on the website ? The club have obviously got the new strip in stock as the original launch was planned for Tuesday 26th June. It's not as though the launch was put back because the new strips had not arrived is it ?

I suppose the simple answer to that is that if there is a cloak of secrecy surrounding it then more people will become curious to see what it looks like and will turn up on launch day!! Even better from a club point of view if ordered in batches of say 100 to launch sell out straight away rather than ordering masses in and taking months to shift get the money in straight away.(Quite Clever really):)

Right okay, We are now just waiting on the word from our sponsor and getting ready to announce the date, what I can say is that I listened to what you have had to say, and it will be a saturday... Saturday very soon.

Pre-ordering the kit, like I said is something I'm used to in my past posts, It is free with no obligation, non at all, it justs rewards people who took the time to express interest in it, to have piece of mind that their kit will be there for them, in their size.

As regards to not showing it, yes I wanted to build an air of cloak and dagger stuff, of course. I want people to be excited by a launch event, I want people to talk about it, what it might be like. It's the one cool thing every two years that gets people talking.

But I will relent, there will be teasers going out early next week on the official site, I guarantee it, snaps of details you want to know.

Sorry if this upsets people, but I want anything commercial to be shrewd and impactful, I want accrington to be aware of its club.

I'm thinking Red, numbers on back, and sponsors' names, beyond that we're moving into fashion IMO.

It would be nice if the 2nd strip didn't become mix and match for some games, as it did last year. :o

Why do we still have "Sewerage" doing the shirts? They're better known for their cricket stuff. Is it because they are cheaper than Nike - in fact, do the shirt manufacturers approach clubs or vice-versa?

Must say: I was very proud to be seen in Wolverhampton wearing my Nike Stanley shirt a couple of years ago when the Wolves fans wore Le Coq Sportif.:p

Like it or not; the make of the shirt carries a certain prestige as does the sponsor. How many would wear a shirt sponsored by Aldi or Primark?

Somebody here is used to the high-life. Snob is another word I can think of.
Personally I would wear a shirt sponsored by the Conservative political party with a picture of Britcliff on it, so long as it was in the best intrests of the club.

The nike shirts were just stock issue, many clubs have them (just different colours) and there is no prestige in that is there.

hahaha
nike was hardly 'prestige'!

I'd much rather be seen in a decent make like Surridge rather than one of the scally makes.

KIPAX 02-07-2007 18:42

Re: New Strip For Next Season

Prostar first. I still have prostar polo shirts that are as good today as when i bought them

Surridge second.. good quality sports wear .

Third would be something you find in a tip that the rats have had, stinks , wet with pee and falling apart.

Nike fourth. cheap tat that lives on the name only.. certainly not on quality.

Well said Shakermaker :D

I really like the surridge shirts, they are much better quality than the nike ones..

I bought one of the Stanley polo shirts (Nike) as a present for a family member and it was ruined after the first wash, even after following the washing instructions, very very poor quality and it cost me 25 quid, it was never worn again after that!!:(

My Surridge shirt is still like new and it was washed and worn week in week out last season :)

I have to say the Surridge one is brilliant.Looks brandnew. But then , it is treated like the Holy Grail in this house. When I reach for it,hanging on its paded hanger,I hear sacred music, the type reserved for holy things. :)

You wrote that a week ago. It is now midweek and early in the week has passed with none of the guaranteed teasers on the website. We have one item that the launch will be this saturday. So where are the teasers and snaps of details we wan't to know, that you guaranteed would appear.

Although it's late in the week, trust me I'm working hard to get this ready for you, At this stage I'm working on players there to sign for you. I will post on official website as soon as I can confirm.

The teasers had to be scrapped, I'm afraid to say it was contractual. So I can only humbly apologise. I did want to post.

I can only tell you the truth.

But we are ready to go, If you want to see it, It will be proudly hanging in the world choice shop after midday this friday.

Re: New Strip For Next Season

I thought the point of the delay was for a big launch? I would have expected something in the paper (Observer) today to entice people to get out for the first day of sale and create a big demand. It would appear that only the 100 or so regular readers of this forum will know it has been released, is it not customary to have a picture done with the players before release and slap in every paper possible?

LewCarroll 06-07-2007 08:50

Re: New Strip For Next Season

yes, thats why we are photo shooting today, and put on sale tomorrow, Why would we wait and not sell any? Everyone wanted new kit before they go on holiday. So here it is. At the earliest possible opportunity, The coverage will appear when we want it to.
