Re: vs Mansfield

Played terrible, but got 3 points, sign of champions, right ? :p

Dumfounded by the team selection today, seems Coley has changed the formation just to keep Rocky in... as a result very little in attacking football, if we were against a half decent team would have lost. Branch out Richardson in. Rocky out Boco in.

Not very often we have a scrappy 1-0 win, I'll take this one.

What a finish by Mullin, picking your spot with a header is sheer class.

Quite right! A textbook classic header. I'll enjoy watching it again on the telly. ;)

carpon 22-09-2007 18:05

Re: vs Mansfield

I thought we played reasonably well in the first half. Great finish from Mullin,D'sane should have scored before that when clean through and Proccy was unlucky with the piledriver that smashed against the bar.

Second half, I thought we took our foot off the gas and I'd agree that a better side would probably punish us.That said,3 points, clean sheet!:D

Webb and Carden had decent debuts and I thought that the formation played today helped us look a little more composed when defending. And it made a refreshing change having a decent referee.

Hopefully the lads can follow todays result with 3 points at Bury!!

Re: vs Mansfield

I thought we played alright bu tnowt more than. The first 10 or 15 minutes Mansfield threatened to spoil the party but after that they had nowt really.

Didn't really notice Webb so is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Arthur. did okay nowt troubled him and we have a new 'tune' for him . Every time he touches the ball he gets the Scottish tune that we know no what it orignates from. But you all know it.

Cavanagh I thought he revelled in a role with a little less defensive responsibility. Did well going forward and what he had to do defensively (20 yards further forward than usual) he did well.

Carden. Showed some glimpses of what is to come (hopefully) but had no grip on the game and didn't affect the outcome one way or the other. Subbed for Boco.

Mullin. Usual game from the maestro. Played well particularly in the first half. The goal he scored WAS pure class. Beyond 12 yards out and between two defenders he directed a header right where the keeper was not going to attmept to gather it from.

Roscoe. Two or three slightnesses aqway from being man of the match. Exceptional movement off the ball and had their defenders running all over the place. But the finishing was abysmal.

Proctor. Played the game we now expect from him. Industrious and graft rather than craft But how unlucky was his 30 yarder that hit the bar?

Carden didnt realise he was on till he was subbed:confused:

Re: vs Mansfield

I thought the ball would have gone into orbit it was launched skywards at every opportunity. Didn't see much sign of the new short passing game the reserves were supposed to have been practising this week. I wore my Craney shirt hoping there would have been some news about his return to the fold. Think we would have won 4-0 if he had been playing, as Carden looked yards off the pace to me. A strange looking formation picked by Coley today, but who needs wingers with Cav in such good attacking form? I thought Evil did well when he came on, running the clock down superbly in the corner for the last 2 or 3 minutes, also holding the ball up well and keeping possession when it was coming straight back at us from everywhere else on the field, plus a great goal-bound rocket which their goalie did well to beat away. Mullin magnificent throughout too.

If the Press Assocaition person had gone for a wee then it won't be listed on the match reports. Referees word is final though

When I got home one of my lads was asking about carden's sending off, so it was either reported incorrectly or he got his subbing mixed up with being sent off :p

I thought fist half we bossed it, second half looked nervous and instead of playing it on the deck we were hoofing and hoping and the ball just kept coming back. But 3pts at this stage is perhaps more important than the good flowing football that we are normally treated too? I think the attendance has to have been an improvement as well bearing in mind Mansfield only brought 100 or so fans that means 1300 Stanley Fans the noise from the Clayton End is brilliant a real wall of sound well done to all concerned!:)

Well the noise is def going a lot further, accymad commented today that her mum was actually shocked at the content of some of the chants :D

perhaps kenny aurther is diabetic because you are told to eat a bananna if your blood sugar is low, plus he had another drink which you also need if you are diabetic.

i thought that stanley played quite well, all the players looked sharp and i thought the formation helped the defenders alot as not many balls got past them into the final 3rd

Re: vs Mansfield

I was also surprised at the team formation. It should have given us more midfield domination but it didn't. Once Mansfield's tall centre back had to leave the field, they had no-one to cope with Paul Mullin's threat in the air and it was unfortunate that we did not give him more quality crosses such as the gem that led to the goal. I'm sure that Leam Richardson would have been more effective than Graham Branch. I might have missed it but no-one seems to have mentioned Mark Roberts in this thread - I cannot recall anything getting past him in the air or on the ground. Paul Carden looked unfit, as did two other Stanley players. As has already been said, Richardson for Branch, Boco for Williams - and we have the making of a good team.

Paul Mullin just gets better and better. He should be worth millions by the time he's forty!!!

And nobody missed Miles.

i fear the Macc fans may have be right all along.

still time for Miles to prove us wrong, surely getting dropped and not coming on is all the inspiration he needs.

what've you got against John Miles? I feel compelled to ask as it seems you have a particular dislike of him.... So he hasn't set the world alight as yet, but what's he done to warrant so much stick?

Not after an argument, I'm just curious :o

So you decided to keep the name coleys red army and not your other one, good old Len sussed you there.:)

I agree with you, Miles although we haven't seen the best of him yet is nothing like the waster McEvilly who as well as giving the Stanley fans the finger has let us down bigtime since he came back, he was even booed when he came on yesterday and that's never happened before.

he let the club and himself down by getting sent off against peterborough but that's no reason for booing him now - it's not gonna do anything for morale is it

I heard booing from the main stand and from the Clayton End, justified I thought.

JEFF 24-09-2007 16:02

Re: vs Mansfield

No booing of Stanley players is justified. If you boo a Stanley player you are also booing Coley, Eric, etc. After all it was their decision to sign the player and it was Coley's decision to play him. The player has been punished. So if you feel you have to boo a Stanley player you are effectively booing Stanley and no true supporter would boo Stanley.

Agree 100% with that sentiment. Criticising players on AccyWeb is one thing, but booing one of our own men on the field of play, no matter what your misgivings about him, is totally out of order.

DAV007 24-09-2007 17:49

Re: vs Mansfield

I have nothing against any player which gives 100%

john miles has not given 100% or anything near to it.

Lee McEvilly tries harder than John Miles IMO

The irony is, John Miles is probably one of the most skillful players in the squad - if only he could apply himself.

I have nothing against him - it just winds me up to see players in league 2 at smaller clubs not try. Especially one, who has seen and been around the top flight - its as if he is happy to settle for league 2 football.
One of the few levellers in this game is effort. The opposing team cant stop you closing down, making runs, putting in blocks and challenges etc.

Miles does very little of this.

I think its a fair criticism.

If stanley where in a smiliar position to Barcelona and had the luxury of a player not tracking back, working hard, closing down - then fine.
We are not.

Its a team game, and everyone must be committed.

How do you know anyone booing was from accyweb? I didn't recognise any of them from here. Please Mr Harris name names.

I have to agree Miles has done nothing all the times I've seen him play, very good at watching the rest of the team work though.
