I'm old enough to have been watching Stanley in the fifties, but lived where football was in everybody's blood, and went every Saturday, looking forward to tales of Stanley's last 50 years though. When you look at attendances across League 2 the big losers are Lincoln, Wrexham and Brentford for obvious reasons. While MK Dons, Bradford and Morecambe are big gainers for various reasons, (good luck to Morecambe, btw). The oddity is probably Hereford who are more successful this year but 250 down on average. It's a mixed bag, if Stanley were to decide on more Friday night games next year, what effect would it have on season ticket sales? Etc. etc. [Thanks for translation] :Banane13::Banane13::Banane13::Banane13::Banane13: |
Re: Friday Night Football Has It Worked?
I know a couple of people who are season tickets holders who would not renew their season tickets if they started doing more friday nights /(one of them missed both games due to friday nights and the other one missed the macclesfield game)

Thought the roof was a good point, so let's see what develops on the next Saturday games, Notts County, Rotherham and Rochdale. Being in or around the play off zone might help as well, but I like the way Wynonie put it, "...which just goes to show, I suppose, that Friday nights are all well and good...until the novelty wears off." Then again, if Beer and Curry sales are up ......... and so on. |
Re: Friday Night Football Has It Worked?
but there is a drop in most league attendances due to economic circumstances a lot of people have been cutting back in spending due to interest rate rises and instability due to northern rock and other global issues .mostly the first thing is leisure spending is cut back and a lot of league clubs are feeling the pinch ...thats why i think our friday nights are successful because attendances re rising and we are increasing the stanley fanbase.if we get a lot more home supporters we dont need to worry about the lesser supported away teams when they come to the fes and the big away supprted team will be a bonus and we wont need to rely on them to boost attendances it not just about getting a quick buck off away supporters its about building a sound and reliable income...

Where it gets us is another matter, I'd like to think the club has got some partial solution out of the experiment. It'll probably be a mixed bag in future years, depending on fixture list. |

Re: Friday Night Football Has It Worked?
as far as crowds are concerned you can never say for certain what has affected crowds positively or negatively, but in our case we saw larger numbers of away fans last season than we will this because of the name and the 'never been there before' factor. It's not just us but the same with most grounds. When we have a larger away end, covered, seats, a proper bar, a proper canteen or two, proper parking, better toilets, a more visitable town etc etc we will never see large numbers repeatedly coming back, just the hardcore.
Home fans will start to come back slowly and the job is trying to keep em here. The roof will play a large part in that as will the added atmosphere that that brings. The 'bar' will also play some part in that as well. As tinpot as it might be it is still an alcohol outlet and that will retain a few every week that see drink as an integral part of football, which it is. Hopefully the football will also help to bring in the crowds, we lost dismally against Wrexham but the crowd was only slightly down against Macc even though they brought less fans. So surely, after a home defeat, the next game home fans were up? Things are on the rise people, just be glad we were there first! |

I agree with the sentiment, just find it more wishful thinking than a logical arguement. :not_ripe:
Here's to a bright future, anyway. :D |
